I dont really know why they do it, but my cat and my dog both lick my lotion, even if its unscented, and my dog seems to like licking my face alot more when i have makeup on.

Since my mean pet answers are always deleted, I'll give you a real answer. OK, the little feline is obviously too intelligent and the obvious precautions (putting the lotion out of reach or inside the medicine cabinet) won't work. So let's examine what it is about the lotion that motivates him to crave it. It is probably oil based, and the little bundle of joy, being a predator, craves fatty foods. Putting it on your hands only makes it all the more easy for the feline to get what it wants.

It appears to have three practical choices. You may opt to discontinue use of the lotion altogether. As your problem is not uncommon, you may want to examine the label on your lotion. It may be non-toxic to pets. If that is not on the label. you may also choose to buy a certifiably non-toxic pet friendly lotion and allow the little feline to continue to lick with no worries. Finally, you may want to give the kitten a better option.
As your kitten is intelligent and real time sensitive, you may give it a friendly alternative. Namely, you can put something tastier outside of your bedroom at the proper time. A tastier alternative accompanied with toys (catnip) should keep it occupied while you sleep. And I dare say the feline would understand the compromise feel all the more loved for it.

Some kittens and cats just like certain smells and tastes of lotion and potions, hand soap, etc. Don't let him lick it, though. We had one cat who would go absolutely nuts about a peppermint foot lotion I used - he would try lick my feet at night, if I had socks on he would still go crazy for it. This was a cat who also LIKED the vaseline we gave for hairball prevention - he would lick the gob of it right off the fingers, whereas with others we have always had to force it down. Our current cat likes the scent of the handsoap we use in the bathroom, and my husband's after shave.

They like lotions with lanolin and lots of cats like mint. You could get softening gloves and sleep with them on for even softer hands. Walmart has them. Best of luck to you! It's so nice to sleep with kitty!!
