As a police officer i have handled 3 cases similar to this in the last 2 months. There is nothing we can do except educate the public. Remember you cant win a lottery you yourself didnt enter. Think twice about lotteries unless you bought a ticket. Im sorry but your brother has lost that money and wont get it back.

I would just try to continue to spread the word....and post a comment or something on a site....maybe ripoffreport.com if there is a company name. If you can get enough people involved, there can be a class action suit brought against the company. Also, if he put any of it on a credit card, see if the credit card company can put the card on hold and investigate the matter....they might be able to give him the money back through an insurance/fraud.
I'm currently involved with a scam and my credit card company has been notified. Hopefully they are going to reimburse me the $3,000 plus that I was scammed on. They are currently looking into the matter. It's a company from a tv ad that sells vitamins and it's a scam. I found this out after I'd been hustled and then did research. (my credit card company can bring in lawyers to sue them if they so desire so they might have thought they were messing with me but big brother is a big credit card company)
Good luck.

Oh God. I once participated in those "lotteries". But I never gave my credit card number or my bank account details.

Those organizations are all fraud. They simply steal money from you. Your brother better file a case and I hope he has the appropriate evidence to present in court.

Never participate in those online lottery programs. They are crooks!

I have received about 11 such emails in the past 2 weeks. I suspect it is from the same source. What I did to those emails? I sent them back to the sender. Let him feel how is it like to receive such mails.

If it sounds to good to be true it probally is. Unless he had entered something with sweepstakes name how could he have won anything. You just have to stop and think about what you are giving money to. If you win why should you pay them?

Those scams have been around so long and are so well adverted, that anyone that falls to them now deserves to lose every penny. Next time tell him to not let his greed and stupidity make him fall for it.
