First, apply what you learn, don't just memorize it. See how things are interreleated, how they work and how they may apply to your own life.

Second, many tests are multiple choice, always eliminate the answers that sound most illogical first. Then, go back to what is left and see which one fits best.

Third, drink some coffee before the exam. They have found it helps with alertness, memory and possibly will assist you.

Fourth, don't cram, but actually study well in advance. If you cram for 8 hours before a test--that will do you little good. It is studying a few hours daily, applying it and getting some down time too (you need to have time to relax) that will help.

Perhaps a study buddy will work, have you tried that?

Try cue cards. Buy yourself a stack at your local university store.

Then, what you do is go through your notes, and develop questions to write on the cue cards. Be sure to do a THOROUGH scan of your notes to write down every question possible. Some of the examples of questions to write on cue cards are: Definitions of terms, what is meant by something and to give an example of it, proofs of stuff, and so forth.

Write the answers to those questions on the back of your cue cards. Take the time each day to go through those cue cards, and try to answer the question on the cue card solely based on what you know. As soon as you have an answer, compare your answer with the answer on the cue card. The key thing to do here is to determine if you're correct, and if you're not correct, how correct you are if at all. Then, you learn from your error, and the next time you go through your cue cards you will have better memorized it.

Keep this up, and your studying will be ten times better than just reading your notes or book. This is something which worked for me.

It is not just the quantity of the studying, but the the quality as well.

Each person has a unique learning style. For example, some are more visual, some more auditory, kinisthetic, etc.

For me personally, I need to read something, then close my eyes and visualize it. Then it sticks. For my sons, one needs to study in silence, while the other one learns best with some noise in the background.

Perhaps you can talk to your school/college counselor about learning styles and study techniques.

What I used was the "Memory Book", by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas. If you read and study the book, I promise you that you'll be able to remember anything that you want to remember.

Try Ginko Biloba, an herb that stimulates blood flow in the brain and aids in memory function. Also try meditation to relax before the tests.
Good luck!!!

i think its your fears causing you to block out the answers, but you could make tape recordings of the answers and play them back to yourself while you sleep, they say you can learn a lot in your sleep.
