I have a crush on the guy and he offered to buy me a stuffed animal tonight. I told him I didn't want it. He wanted to know why not. I told him I don't like women with their hand out. I'm able to buy anything I want. The other ppl we both know aren't as well off as me so those girls like ppl to buy them stuff. Not me! But I really like him.

OK TEK. I want this guy so bad I don't want to be anything like the other females we know! We haven't established anything bigger than friends. I want to know if this was his big move? He knows I wasn't trying to hurt his feelings. We were laughing and goofing around. I talked to him about three times later tonight, so we're okay there.

It is the animal mating instinct common between just about every animal. Have you noticed how males are always the one dancing, always the animal with bright colours, always the one that gets eaten? Males have an inbuilt instinct to try to impress their potential spouse by any means necessary. People are different from other animals because of their capacity to think and the changing role of women in society. It is not a bad thing as long as it goes both ways. Get him something every now and then.

This is what some guys are like: if they buy you something then you are obligated to them in return. Some guys who shower girls with gifts are insecure, and they expect you to drop everything for them. Buy you a car, expect sex every time they want it. Buy you a ring, expect you to stay home when they want you to. Give you spending money, expect you to worship them. If you don't accept these things you don't get the guilt trip when they want you to do something. I'm talking worse case scenario, so that you are aware of how some guys think.

Buying a small thing for you can show some emotional attachment, for you to accept something such as a stuffed animal could make him feel closer to you and allow him a venue of showing his feelings. Yes you are right some females do have their hand out (not for stuffed animals). Let him give you a token of his affection. You aren't in danger of prostituting yourself.

This is the problem with this "whole independent woman" thing. It's sad for me to know the day has came when a guy can't buy a girl he's fond of a stuffed animal.

this story kinda reminds me of when me and my girlfriend started dating.

we had gone to a carnival and had a great time. i spent about 30 bucks on darts just to try to get the biggest stuffed animal they had. (despite my girlfriend telling me to stop) i ended up only scoring the medium sized animal.

anywho, she accepted the animal as a suvenier for the evening.

maybe thats how you should have accepted that gift. don't think of it as something you need/want. think of it as a memory in the form of a stuffed animal.

if everything is going as smoothly as you say it is, you should be fine. but let the guy treat you once in awhile. you deserve it. :)

Then just say so. Tell him then he won't have to resort into bribery!!!!!!!

If money can't buy love, then we do guys try to by gifts for the girl they like? Either A: instinct is kicking in and they are showing you what a good provider they are, or B: bribery gets them anywhere they want to be. Personally, I think its B!

Instead of thinking of it as a hand out why dont you think that perhaps he really wants to give it as a gift to demonstrate how much he cares about you. Its not just a hand-out its an expression of love. He enjoys your company and would like to show you. I would feel the same as you about expensive gifts but c'mon!

Well, i think giving something to someone or buying somethin to someone is a way to thanks or a way to show love.
I don't buy things to the ppl i love because i want to buy love is cuz i know they will be happy and i like to make happy the ppl i love.
so it doesn't have to be if you can buy or not is the act, the intention to do it ... the care ...

wow..independant little thing aren't ya? LOL there is nothing wrong with accepting a gift when it is intended as a form of affection..it doesn't mean you owe the other person a thing..ever think maybe he wanted to do something nice for you and you maybe hurt his feelings?

He was trying to be nice. People do give out of affection you know. Do you turn down Christmas gifts too? Sheesh.
