I have had 28 treatments over the past two years. My last treatment was January 2006- To this day, I can barely remember up to about 4 months back, and before that NOTHING. In another 4 months, I won't rememeber anything before today. .Help. This is serious.

Short term memory loss IS a side effect of ECT. Although, it can sound like a barbaric treatment, many people report that ECT is the only treatment that will help there depression. My guess is that you have all ready tried a great deal of medications first, before moving to ECT. I would definitely bring up this side effect with your physician/psychiatrist, it sounds like it is really causing you some distress. It is possible that the side effects may out-weigh the benefits in your case, I am not sure. However, I do know that you must bring this up with your physician immediately.

I've never had it, but I know that memory loss due to this type of treatment is a given.
You should have been informed of this prior to treatment. Stop getting treatments if you are overly concerned.

This is sad,...this is what they used to call, shock therapy isn't it?...I guess you have to take the good with the bad, unfortunately...maybe you should start documenting all that you can remember now....God bless you

why are you undergoing ECT? There are medications that are better at dealing with whatever mental problem your suffering from without the side effects that ECT happens to have.
