What would a Mexican have to do to legally immigrate to the US? How hard is it; is it possible for an average poor Mexican family to come here legally?

We blame them for doing it illegally, so I'm just curious what is involved with doing it legally.

They need to apply for permanent residency through:
1. Jobs sponsorship. The chance of a poor Mexican getting this is very very low, cause most of the jobs being sponsored are high tech jobs that require high education levels.
2. Lottery. There are only 50,000 spots a year for the whole world. So you can just imagine how winning this is is not very easy. But I know a lot of people who have gotten PR's first time applying.
3. Political Asylum. Since Mexico is not considered to be a dangerous place to live compared to say Darfur, their application might be rejected.

And there are other legal ways to do it, but despite being one of the most open nations in the world in terms of immigration, it's not the easiest thing in the world.

The US blames them for doing it illegally cause illegal immigration causes taxpayers money and it's a strain on social resources like medical care, education and crimes. But I doubt that the US would be blaming Canada too much if the northern border suddenly gets an influx of illegal Canadian immigrants just cause the US thinks Canadians can contribute instead positively compared to the Mexicans.

This is how easy they made it. The instructions are in Spanish! The thing I find most disturbing about the illegal immigration is that these same poor families you speak of hand over their entire life savings to some swindler who won't even guarantee their safe arrival in the states. They approximate that 10% don't even make it here alive. It's a long, arduous journey over the desert in searing heat with no food or water to sustain them. The US locals provide water out of pity for them. If they get caught by the US border patrol, it's tough luck. They lost everything they had in their home land for instant deportation back to Mexico. Here's the kicker... they'll try it again!...as soon as they have enough money. Personally, I think it's a lack of education. I can't read the Spanish version of the law, but it's got to be better than dying from dehydration while trying to get around it.

Its tough for Canadians too. I am married to an American. We sent in our first form and I though I would be ok to come home for a visit. I was denied going back. Now I am waiting in Canada for my Visa to come though, plus I have to do all my Biometrics, etc here. When that is all done I have to go to the US Consulate in Montreal for my Visa Interview. It truly is a nightmare. I won't spend Christmas and probably not even Mardi Gras with my husband. Before I got married I was allowed into the US for 6 months at a time as long as I landed back in Canada before that time expired. Now because of a piece of paper I am not allowed back in. Plus waiting for every form to be approved can take several months. Even when I go to make my appointment at the Consulate it could be a 90 day wait.

Follow the rules and regulations. It has been done by poor people so it is possible. I don't like to hear about how poor these people are, I too am poor but you don't see me asking for a handout. I make do with what I got and what God gave me!

Poor people are not allowed to immigrate legally....this explains why we have so many illegals....the process if they were even eligible would be for them to apply, wait 15 years for a denial or acceptance.... by then they have starved to death ... along with their wives and innocent children.....

Check with immigration office near your home and get someone to tell you everything it takes and the cost. Monies that poor immigrants cannot afford.
