In order to get HD broadcasts into your HDTV, there are 3 options.

1. Purchase an over the air HDTV antenna. They cost around $40 at your local electronics store. You can get local HDTV stations: NBC, Fox, ABC, CBS, etc. You will get a clearer picture and better sound, still inferior to choice 2 and 3. Limited selection though. This will connect to your coax in the back of your TV.

2. You can subscribe to a satellite service and purchase the HD package. You will get local, sports, movie and other stations in HD. Great picture, surround sound. Spendy.

3. You can subscribe to a cable service and purchase their HD package. You will get a similar set of stations as the satellite service. Great picture, surround sound. Spendy as well.

Both choice 2 and 3, you will receive a digital receiver or set-top box. It will connect to your tv via component, DVI or HDMI. It depends on your TV connectivity.

Remember, 3 factors in getting the best quality for HD. Good HD source, high quality cabling (HDMI-best) and high resolution display. There is a difference between a 480p HDTV vs. 720p HDTV. 720p will always provide a superior display because it is true HD resolution, where the 480p tv will require scaling and create video artifacts.
