It depends on what kind of American you want to sound like. Americans from New York don't sound the same as Americans from Texas.

Depends on how old you are...the younger you are the easier it is to learn the accent.

Read outloud. Also, wherever you are, listen to native English speakers and carry a small notebook around if you think you won't be able to remember. Write down the word and figure out a way to write the pronounciation in your own way. It worked for me.
