I've never been on anti-depressants before, and I know the results of every kind vary person to person, but I've never met anyone who's taken Celexa and I'd just like to know first-hand from some medical professionals or others who've been on it or are taking it what it's like? I've got to have some kind of change in my life and it sounded like a good one for me...but they (anti-depressants) all sound the same just reading the description.

I am in celexa and I take it for depression it has worked for me. I take a low dosage form 40mg. It usually takes about 3/4 months for it to work, but also going to the therapist helps too. It takes the edge off.

The only reason I agreed to celexa is that it had little side effects and you can be taken off of it. Its not like zoloft or the heavier mao's that have more sever withdrawl symptons.

All i know is the i'm much happier and I can function alot better because of it. I actually feel like my old self again.. I'm happier, its easier to deal with things, I got rid of all the toxic family members(aka i don't speak to them don't need'm) and deal with dad's death, a friend dying of cancer, and my sister being raped, and my husband having a heart attack.

I also meditate that helps very much too.

All antidepressants work for many people who have Major Depression. None work for everyone. All antidepressants have POTENTIAL side effects but if or what the side effects are, vary with the individual.

It sounds as if you think you are depressed and looking for something to help. You can't diagnose yourself. You need to go to a doctor and describe your symptoms to them. If your doctor diagnoses you as having a depression that medication would help, he/she will prescribe that for you.

It's not you who decides if you need a medication and if so, what that medication is. You can do that with over the counter meds but not prescription medication. It takes a doctor to know what is the best antidepressant for you to start on.

I say start on, because a doctor can only determine what has the best probability of helping you and not harming you. If a person is having a complicated mental health issue, then they need a psychiatrist.

Best wishes to you.

Sorry I have not taken celexa either, but have been on anti-depressants for the last 5 years,if your looking for a fast fix, this is not the way. Have you thought about outside help, such as counseling, before medication?? Sometimes just to meet with somebody to discuss your views, helps relieve the stress level so much. Unless you are truly a depressed person, meds do help.Due to lack of chemicals or to much in the brain. But you must start somewhere, and this might be your first step. good luck.

I took it for a while. Not for depression, but for a fainting disorder. I don't know if it made me any happier, but it did reduce the frequency of fainting episodes. I understand it has fewer side effects compared to other antidepressants. I didn't notice any.

Have you considered making changes to your life or lifestyle instead of medicine? An antidepressant is a big step.
