My opinion only:
As soon as you begin to organize or governmentalize something as vast, beautiful and powerful as Spirit, artificial limitations are imposed on a natural vastness that know no bounds.
Therefore, I will say that ALL organized religions are lacking in some way.
Therefore also, I will say that there is no 'true' religion.
Mind, this is my opinion, but it is a somewhat educated one.
Let us examine the word "Religion".
It has its base in the Latin word 'religio" which means 'to re-bind ore re-link together'.
This word choice is based on the belief that human beings were separated from the divine spirit and now need to be re-linked to it.
This was/is the advertisement slogan for many religions today as it has been for a couple of millenia.
The basic premise is that:
man is born into sin (separation from God)
man must be saved (re-linked with God)
and here's the rub:
depending on whatever religion you are exposed to, they ALL claim that THEIR way is THE WAY.
My belief is this:
Man is an expression of God as is anything else in the Universe.
Separation exists only in the mind/perception.
Every man/woman/child not only has a DIRECT channel to All-That-Is, but also is imbued with the creative power that is evidenced by the multitude of creation.
GOD is DONE creating. All that is or will be, already IS. It is up to US now to shove it around and make it work.
The power of creation is the power of love.
NOT judgment or criticism, or separatism, or even individualism, or any 'isms'.
To answer your question:
1. Any organized religion is 'BS'
2. If there IS a true 'religion' (something that will re-connect your awareness back to and with God it's LOVE.
It is a lot harder work to become aware each day of where my attention is, where my feelings are and what I will speak or act than it is to go to church on Sunday, absolve myself of any spiritual responsibility therewith and go to sleep during the week.
Being "non-religious" is harder work than being 'religious'.
It requires being 'awake'. I find this 'awake' delightful and joyful, adventurous, sometimes a bit scary, but I'll not have it any other way.
YOU decide how you want to live.

Some organized religions may be but all religion must have organization. Even atheism is organized to a degree. There are respected atheistic scholars to whom lesser educated atheists turn to for answers. There are atheistic academic clubs where atheists converge to share ideas and research and determine how to disseminate that information to the public. Disorganized religion would be no religion at all because the definition of a religion is a group of people who regularly meet with people who believe the same doctrines and seek the same goals. True religion would be the one that has both historical and empirical verification and I believe Christianity is the only one that satisfies those requirements.

Organized religion since the birth of Christianity really has kind of started to pigeon hole itself in the last few years. You either come off as a religious zealot or a down and out hypocrite. While message of most of the Bible, Torah, and Quran are very good and beneficial to society at large, sadly the people running the show are making it harder to really look upon organized religion favorably.
As far as a "true religion" is concerned... It is really in the Eye of the Beholder(great Metallica song), so one person's truth may be another man's lie. I don't think there is a "true" concrete religion, but I do believe there is ONE thing that ties all the religions together and makes them all valid. (Even Christianity and SATANISM are bound by this):
Love. It ties everything together.

Well, I wouldn't say BS. I think that it is interesting that many of the earth religions say the same thing - pray to get what you want, the golden rule (essentially) and they way home after death. I think that many of the earth's religions are the same story translated for different regions.
It seems, though, that once you have an organization (which includes bills for church and priest and heat and food, etc.) the focus turns from the spiritual toward the financial in an effort to maintain your organization. That's where they go off track in my opinon.
All of the earth's religions are beautiful expressions of human spirituality and they all lead toward enlightenment, but truly there is no way to know the Unknowable.
Peace!

Here is what the bible says about religion.
James 1:25-27 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
Public Domain
25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
27Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
Basically, it says that true religion is to follow God's Word. You can do that while being part of an organization or not. However, there is a greater support system in organized religion. There are very few who are capable of serving God on their own without instruction or support.
Even pastors need support from the congregation. No one is completely independant.

Organized Religion is not BS. Just the followers are full of BS and do things that jeopardise credibility of religion. Really, would you want to live in a completley secular society? Where men can rape kids and not be punished? Where the traditional family is no where to be seen, only broken homes and troubled people everywhere wondering why their lives are such a mess, they were only doing what they wanted to whenever they wanted to? Religion, when followed in kindness and love for fellow man, holds people up to personal responcibility and growth as a human being. without it we're pretty much a bunch of poo throwing monkey relatives.

Though I'm agnostic, I think that religion gives people good rules to live by. On the other hand, its misuse has caused and is causing incalculable damage. Can't really say whether it's B.S.. I don't believe there is one true religion. If I were to be religious, I'd be Buddhist because it has many good teachings and no god to worship.

People can experience a feeling of inspiration with or without the influence of religion. This is not BS.
People seem to have an instinctual desire to find some kind of source. This is not BS.
People can have transcendent experiences of connection with something larger than what I call the "relative" or "personal" self. This is not BS.
Religion begins with these natural impulses and tries to channel them into systematic beliefs. Some capitalize on it for profit. That is BS. Some seek prominence and influence within their religious circle. That is BS. Some hide from personal responsibility under the veil of convenient beliefs. That is BS.
I try to learn every day, so my beliefs evolve. To name that process of growth would be to paralyze it. I wish we could have a direct source to God's mind, but I'm automatically skeptical of anyone who makes that claim.

True religion holds the teachings of the One True God and live their life in accordance to it.
Organized religion shows that it is directed by God since God is a god of order not chaos.
SHE has fallen! Babylon the Great has fallen, she who made all the nations drink of the wine of the anger of her fornication!” “Babylon the Great has fallen, and she has become a dwelling place of demons and a lurking place of every unclean exhalation and a lurking place of every unclean and hated bird!”—Revelation 14:8; 18:2.
Babylon the Great represents the empire of False religion as it has when has not been ruined, a city of religious activities that does not respect the one true God. It will come to an end, all false religion will fall and only one True religion will stand out.

you are free to think that organized religion is BS as you put it and many people feel like it. But you don't have to think that organized religion is OK to be a believer. If you have a livinf faith, in Islam, Christ or Budha, you don't have to listen to the priests, the bishops, even the teachings of your church because religions' first aim is and should be tolerance and compassion.
