A conon A540. Circuit City has them on sale this week for $199.99 with a free 1GB SD card.

Here is what a canon A540 is: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=12942

I have done research on them and they have great reviews. Canon is also listed as number 1 in the consumer reports.

Good luck!

Go for an Olympus! I own one and LOVE it! I have used friends Canon, Kodak, and Gateway (Gateway is about the worst brand you could choose from, I also own a Gateway camera-bad experience!) cameras and I do not like any of them as much as I like my Olympus. I do think that Canon makes an excellent camera. I would recommend them also.
This is my camera: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1220
As you can see, it is a little out of your $200 price range, but there are cheaper ones here: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/oima_digital_all.asp
I would recommend getting a camera with a view finder. It's pretty much impossible to take pictures in a lot of sunlight without one. A view finder is NOT the screen, it is the "hole" you look through to take the picture. Also, the highest amount of "mega pixels" is the best. You will pay more to get more, but your image quality will be much better. With my camera, I can
in-large a photo taken with it and put it on my computer desktop and it will fill the entire screen and not be a bit blurry. I'll just say, in the area of digital cameras, you get what you pay for.

It sounds to me like you want an Olympus FE-140. ;)

Or FE-170

My *favourite* feature about Olympus cameras are the marvelous menus for scene modes that will change your lighting, ISO, and white balance for you, depending on what type of picture you're taking, and the built-in help guide is *awesome*. And they are both so easily accessable on the dial.
Very nice.

In response to the guy below me: Canon's A540 is a good camera too. Canon would be my second choice after Olympus. I'm not sure if that one has Image Stabalization, though... It's a really important and good feature, so be sure to ask about it when you're looking at the cameras in the stores!

That would be the new Casio Xslims 6 meg. I have one and it is awsome. Besides the things you mentioned you wanted in a camera, the battery also never dies.

You can use it as a voice recorder also and it plays slide shows with transitions. You can use it for hours with a 2 gig SD card. It comes with a docking station also.

As a professional photographer for over 20 years, sometimes I just don't like to carry my Big camera around. I carry this one in my pocket. It also zooms and blows big prints up to 30x40 size and no pixel show. Great Price too! Videos come out to be .avi files.

Good Luck, Happy Holidays
