It was originally believed that Jesus would return in the decades following his death. When that didn't happen it was stretched to the end of the first millennium. The year prior to the end of the first millennium many people just quit trying and sat down in wait, many farmers didn't tend their herds or harvest their crops, and a great many people died as a result. After that most of the religious authorities quit predicting and decided to simply wait until he comes back, and they're still prophesying signs of the end days and still waiting.

Many Christians believe the prophetic writings say that Jesus will come twice in the future. The first time will be to first resurrect the dead in Christ and take the true believers to heaven. This event is sometimes referred to as the "rapture." Some scholars do not believe the rapture will occur at all. Others believe that there will be a rapture , but disagree on when it will occur.
Either way, Christ will also return to Earth for a second time---probably seven years after the first event.
The first time, (in the rapture)His feet will not touch the earth. People will rise in a twinkling of an eye to meet Him in the air. These people will be taken to heaven for some very specific events outlined in the scriptures. Revelations will tell you all about it. Then will come a second appearance which is known as the "Second Coming." Christ will return to the Mount of Olives and will save Isreal from abject destruction by the forces of AntiChrist at Armageddon. He will remain on Earth to set up His kingdom for a period of a thousand years. This is the era that is known as the time that the lion and lamb shall lie down together; men will bend swords into plowshares, and wars shall cease. When is this going to take place? Can't say.

Not for us to know; but Middle East events and others seem ti indicate it might be sooner rather than later.
The sure things are that
(1) He shall return, just as He promised
and
(2) even if He doesn't return for 200 years, it is most likely you will have left this life .... it is appointed unto man (or woman) once to die and then the judgement.
We do know that the death rate hasn't changed in nearly 6,000 years. It still is very close to ONE per person.

What do you mean by return?
Many of us has been fooled to believe about Jésus' second coming as the end of this world....but those are two different things.
More appropriately, it should be understood as Jesus' rule, that time when he came to power as King in heaven which has happened a long time ago.
Says Revelation 12:7-9, 12: “War broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels battled with the dragon, and the dragon and its angels battled but it did not prevail, neither was a place found for them any longer in heaven. So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth; he was hurled down to the earth, and his angels were hurled down with him. On this account be glad, you heavens and you who reside in them! Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to you, having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time.”
After Satan was thrown down to earth he has been causing chaos hence there is war,famine....all suffering that man can bear...
The time when Jesus will come to act as judge for his Father at the time of Armageddon,no one knows, only God himself does as Jesus said:
Regarding the end of this system of things, he quotes Jesus as saying: “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matthew 24:36)

Matthew 24: 36-37
"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man."
Any man who claims to know is lying.

No one knows. The bible doesn't give a time, but says to always be watchful and gives signs of the "season" in which He will return. When there is wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes, pestilences, famines and when you see the love of many wax cold. It looks bleak lately, so who knows.

1997.....too late.
but seriously? according to the bible jesus says he will return to save the people within the lifetime of those witnesses who saw him resurrected. so if your jesus IS going to come back...he came back about 2000 years ago.....unless you think theres a 2000+ year old person out there.
