What are some good toys for cats that they can play with without me having to manipulate them?

My bf and I have two cats (one is not quite an adult). We're both full time college students and have lots of other activities going on so we're not home much. I buy my cats tons of toys but a lot of them they won't or can't play with unless I am manipulating them. Aside from that toy where the ball rolls around in a circle (I have that), what are some toys the cats could play with and not need humans to help with? I try to play with them as much as I can, but a lot of times I just cuddle and pet them rather than play.

cats love to play with anything...and will by themselves....try some tennis balls....crumpled up foil.....straws....all my cats love these....they will bat them around and carry the straws around in their mouths. i am glad that you care about your cats....cuddle and petting let them know they are loved...but playing with them is important, too. try to find some time for them every day....a few minutes is all you need...

Cat seriously can be entertained very, VERY easily. :] First off, try a scratching post, or maybe a really good rolled up ball of yarn.(If you use the yarn, make it so that at least a foot of string is hanging off of the ball, so when you roll it and go off to do whatever you need to do, the string flies everywhere.) I used to have a kitten, and I'd use a stick or dowel that hung off the counter or surface with a string attached to the end of it and tied a toy mouse there. Hmmm... soda cans are good, along with water bottles. Anything round, really. :] You can also try using a bag... oh, that was FUN. I used to take the cardboard boxes from the TV came in and make my kitten a house. Just stick random roles here and there of any size, they don't have to be big enough for them to get through, that way, your cat can keep looking until they find an opening big enough to squeeze through(same goes for when they're inside). You could go to the fabric store and buy a yard or two of cheap cloth, cut it so that it looks like a scarf, sew all these toys(like santa bells or water bottle caps) to them and tie them to a doorknob of stick. And... that's all I can think of. I hope I helped. :]

This is too too too easy. Simple everyday household items make the best cat toys;
ball up some aluminum foil (about the size of a tennis ball)
the ring off the top of a gallon of milk
the cap off the gallon of milk
tie balls of any kind (yarn, tennis, etc.) to the doorknobs so they hang eye level to the cats (just don't do this on doors with glass as I have seen cats get really excited when a ball comes flying back at them)
a paper grocery bag (don't ask me why, it just entertains for hours!)
Use your imagination!
The stuff you would never think of will keep them busy for long periods of time and worn out enough for that cuddle time when you get home!!!

well my cat fluffee would like never play because i payed like way to much attention to her . She was sooo affectionate . but my brother would take a fishing rod and take the hook of and stuff and tie and like ring around the end or anything and like set above the cat and dangle the fishing line with the ring on it over the cat and he would smack it. but dont stp cuddling with your cat

cats prefer toys they think are new.. so you can hide some toys for 2 -3 weeks and rotate them with other toys so the cat thinks you bought it new toys..
put the toys in different places of your house
move your cat furniture around or lay it on its side (assuming you have cat furniture..... even a cat scratch tower laid on its side will get new use)

best toy - HONEYSUCKLE TOYS.. cats love em better than cat nip

cats do well with a variety of toys.. soft, hard, jingle..

Um I'm not sure the name of these but you can buy electric ferrets or mice that run around and the cats can chase them. Downsides are they cost a bit, they are a bit noisy and run out of batteries fast.

GIve her somethin tat rolls it can be a pencil though not advisable,it can be a ball, etc

Hi there again...cats love cardboard boxes with holes cut into various places and paper bags. They also love big straws, rings from plastic milk/juice jugs to bat about as well.

TRY STUFFED CAT NIP TOYS THEY LOVE THEM AND JUST A PLAIN OLD BALL THAT THEY CAN BAT AROUND ON THE FLOOR

expandable cat tunnel, cat tree, cat condo... I don't know becuase my cats always want me to play along with them - yeah, even in the cat tunnel!
