Only law enforcement agencies have resources to check on whether a gun is stolen, or not. A gun can still be stolen, and not be on any law enforcement database. The only sure way of buying a clean gun, is to purchase it in new condition.

Ask your local police to do a serial number search. If nothing turns up it doesn't neccesarily mean that the gun hasn't been stolen but it will show that there is no record of it. Many guns were never registered and so will not show up on most data bases.
