First of all you don't want to be responsible for hurting a person's child so you need to learn a basic CPR, first aid course, and earn the certificate. You need to get an order (costs I think 30$) from your local police station that shows you are not an offender and have no criminal record. And then you need to get some toys, and mats and small tables and chairs so you can feed, the children properly and entertain them also. You can do all of this with under 100 dollars, go to Once upon a child, and get 2nd hand toys, or like some second hand toy shop. You need disinfectant for areas where you will handle food, and also possibly a potty or small toilet seat that will fir on your own. I think you can only have live 6 children if you are one person so you won't need too much supplies.
Also look into talking a six month ECE (early childhood education)course at an adult school. This way will certify you legally and prepare you .

What you should do is call the YMCA about getting into training classes for becoming a home daycare worker. They can get you connected with training and classes and connect you with people who need daycare and go through YMCA as well. If you want to start a daycare/preschool that is outside of the home - you need to get an Early Childhood Education Degree and possibly get some business and management classes behind you.

I don't know about IL but in NY in our county all we need is I believe 35hours of cources mandated by the state that you need every two years. You would also have the state drop into your home once a year and they have strict regulatiions other then that you do not need a degree maybe a degree in patience and stress managment.

You need to take CPR classes, get certified. Check on food programs in your area. Get a good learning curriculum for the children. Have information on going rates, cost for each age group. Have info. on state lisense. Make sure your home meets all state saftey requirements. Hope this helps.
