In the Latter Day Saint's religion, they believe that a celestial marriage is for eternity.

How do you explain Jesus saying in Matthew 22:22-33 that marriage is not in heaven? See Matthew 22:30: 30For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

How is it then, that marriage can be for eternity if Jesus himself said this cannot happen.

Rainfog, if you read the chapter in Matthew 19, it was about divorce, not about an eternal marriage.

What about this scripture: "Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." (Matthew 19:6)

That implies that if people are married by the authority of God, it is going to last.

In the scriptures you quoted, Jesus was stating that people who are not already married on earth will not be getting married in heaven. Marriage is an earthly ordinance, and if done with the right authority, it lasts through eternity. If you choose not to be married on earth, you won't be getting a second chance in heaven or after the resurrection. Marriage is good, and God married Adam to Eve before they partook of the fruit and became mortal, so it was meant to last for eternity.

Marriage, like baptism - is an early ordinance. If you are properly baptized on earth, the ordinance lasts forever. Ditto for marriage, but once you are already in heaven, there are no marriages or baptisms done.

The first scriptures reference was in essence, "she had 7 husbands, will she be with all 7 husbands--how will this be worked out?" (Why would this question even be raised in an attempt to trick the Savior if they did not know marriages could be eternal?)

Not all 7 of her marriages were eternal marriages . . . we actually don't know if any 6 arrangements with the brothers were actually marriages or if she was just given to these men. (It sounds like she could have been passed on like chattel.) If they were contracts of man, the contract ends at death. If she was chattel, then she only married once. Marrying someone for eternity has to take place before heaven. So if none of these marriages were eternal, she will be as an angel because marriages will not happen in heaven.

Matt. 16: 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Eternal covenants such as baptism and marriage are to be done in this life. Since this is above scripture is mentioned a few times in the Bible, haven't you ever wondered what it means?

1. No, if you will read it carefully, it says WHEN they rise (meaning the resurrection) they will neither marry or be given in marriage. That means anyone who was not already sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise, will not have the opportunity to do so later. 2. Not really that I know of that specifically spell it out, like in the Doctrine & Covenants... other than "what is bound on earth will be bound in heaven" We believe that is speaking of eternal bonds entered into by the Holy Priesthood. 3. There is harmony.. there is just MORE to the gospel than what all other churches have out there. The harmony - Jesus Christ is the Savior. That is one thing most churches have in common. They just don't have the further gospel knowledge that we do. It's not about "who's right and wrong"... it's about what the WHOLE gospel entails. And we believe that whole gospel was restored to the earth and is contained in the LDS church.

Perhaps it is referring to how some people will not meet their eternal companion in this life and will have to wait until the Milennium to get this straightened out. You might go through 7 or 8 marriages and/or divorces like actress Elizabeth Taylor, for example, but none of them may be your eternal companion. In that case, when you are in heaven (or the spirit world) you may have a period of waiting before the Second Coming and the Resurrection and the Milennium, and then it will all be worked out. I have faith that there is someone for everyone, and even if nothing seemed to work out in this life, someone who is faithful and obedient to God's commandments will be subject to the law of compensation, and eventually all of these things will work out to their good. Think of all the soldiers who have died in wars without being married. Let's just have a little more faith in the plan of God for all of His children. Stay a little more open to possibilities, not supposed contradictions.

The scripture refers to the 144,000 mentioned in Revelation 7;4 and 14;1.
Very special people who will be TAKEN to heaven to act with Jesus in the judgement of Revelation 20; 12,13.
NOT EVERYONE WHO DIES GOES TO HEAVEN.
(Revelation 20:4) And I saw thrones, and there were those who sat down on them, and power of judging was given them. Yes, I saw the souls of those executed with the ax for the witness they bore to Jesus and for speaking about God, and those who had worshiped neither the wild beast nor its image and who had not received the mark upon their forehead and upon their hand. And they came to life and ruled as kings with the Christ for a thousand years.

(John 5:22) For the Father judges no one at all, but he has committed all the judging to the Son.

So Jesus cannot be his own Father. The two must be separate.

(1 Corinthians 6:2-3) Or do YOU not know that the holy ones will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by YOU, are YOU unfit to try very trivial matters? 3 Do YOU not know that we shall judge angels? Why, then, not matters of this life?

(2 Timothy 4:1) I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is destined to judge the living and the dead, and by his manifestation and his kingdom,

So Jesus and the 144,000 are to do the judging.

And they are to judge angels. That would place them HIGHER than the angels. Because they have EARTHLY EXPERIENCE.

Marriage as we understand it, cannot exist in heaven. (1 Corinthians 15:50) However, this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit God’s kingdom, neither does corruption inherit incorruption.

But marriage ON EARTH can be eternal.
(Psalm 37:9) For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.

(Psalm 37:11) But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

(Psalm 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it.

On the basis that the married couple survive Armageddon, and they remain on earth without death [ Rev. 21;4] it can be eternal////
...but not IN heaven.

It is part of the LDS plan, that does not come with the Catholic or Baptist package. You have to get the LDS to have eternal marriage. Read the bible some more you will See or ask your local LDS missionary. But don't ask that dip impersonating a respected physicist. (second row)

The reason the LDS say this can be is because they don't take the Bible very seriously. In their view, the Bible takes 3rd place, after (a) newly revealed scriptures (Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price), and (b) the word of modern prophets. It is these extra-biblical teachings that give Mormons their temple rituals, including "eternal" temple marriage. There are a great many other beliefs and practices of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) that are equally unbiblical.

Let me compliment you for reading and heeding the Bible. God bless you.
