I think that proper English is becoming a thing of the past for a few reasons. First off, people are just becoming lazy. Just look on the Yahoo Answers boards and you will see some appalling spelling, punctuation, and grammar. I refuse to believe that all of these people are uneducated - I think that they just try to get by with not trying very hard when it comes to proper English. We allow ourselves to become lazy online and type abbreviations such as "LOL", and eventually this gets passed on to our speech (ever heard someone address a stranger with "yo" instead of "excuse me.."? I have!) Also, parents are becoming too lazy and too indifferent to correct their children's grammar mistakes when the child is learning to speak and write. Thus, the child grows up with a poor foundation for learning to speak and write correctly. The quality of education has also gone down hill in this country as well. I live in Arizona and we are ranked LAST in quality of education in the US. Believe me, it shows. I go to college with people that can barely write a coherent sentence. I understand that languages are dynamic and they do change with time, but some people just don't try to sound halfway intelligent.

Combination of disrespect, improper teachings, laziness and tv trying to come up with new "fad" words for kids to use. Even the English of most peoples' grandparents wasn't exact proper english, but it was more respectable than the stuff used today.

i imagine you may want to correctly be top as a lot as a level about technologies & the media yet something else to imagine about is the melding of numerous ethnic languages influencing ours. The Latin & Asian languages have a diverse structure of their sentences than ours. Their nouns & verbs are in a diverse position in the sentence. case in point in English i might want to assert "I truly have a pink automobile" while in Spanish they could likely say "pink is the coloration of my automobile". Any way short cuts seem the in ingredient now-a-days. we adore each and every thing quickly.

Languages evolve. They always have. What was once proper becomes antiquated and replaced by the language adopted by new generations. Eventually, new or adjusted standards will be adopted and the cycle will continue.

It is not, society just lets people think it is.

As for the few of us left, there isn't too much slang slipping from our mouth.

Because with societies emphasis on being politically correct, we would rather degrade our language than criticize those who can't speak it correctly.
