Why is'nt the Gloria said during the Catholic mass during the 4 weeks of advent?

During the weeks of Advent (and also the weeks of Lent) the Gloria is not said as this prayer is one of praise and thanks for the birth of Christ, which, during advent, has not yet happened. It is not said during Lent as it is too "uplifting" at a time when thoughts should be centered inward and be sorrowful and penitant.
