He's not trying to gain or lose any weight. I just want to know how much is normal, give or take. I dont think he eats enough.

He is 29 and not particularly active.

He usually eats about one small meal a day. I cant possibly see how this can be healthy.

Depends on age, teenage males can take in up to 3000 calories in a normal day. After that metabolism slows, so it could be any where between 2000-3000 a day based upon his age and activity level.

If he's not losing weight, he's eating enough. The number of calories varies widely depending on activity, so you'll not find out with this post.
It's really simple. Food value is measured in calories. If the calories eaten are the same as the calories burned, weight stays stable. If the calories in are fewer than the calories out, you lose weight. If the calories in are more than the calories out, you gain weight.
Perhaps instead of "enough" you meant "wisely." He should be eating about 80 grams of protein a day, and the fat amount of fat in the diet shouldn't be exhorbitant, for instance. The FDA's pyramid is annoying but a decent guideline.

According to the ACSM, males should take in no less than 1400 calories per day.

probably around 3500-3000 a day
