If you will be exercising for a while, when you are thirsty drink water first, then Gatorade. Also, eat a lot of protein, beef is best because it contains the least amount of carbs. Also don't eat to much carbs!! They will slow you wayyy down. try to limit your intake of them. It is good to take a multi vitamin too.

, I am a world class racquetball player (amateur, but ranked 3rd in the world a few years ago) I kept noticing a professional player sneaking off to an Italian restaurant during pro-am tournaments.

One day I followed him, and after he left, I ask the waitress what he had ordered. .... He had ordered spaghetti without the sauce and without the meat. ...... The other name for that is pasta.

Now most pro athletes know that pasta is a quick energy food. But meat slows you down. (Like after thanksgiving dinner everyone is lazy and sleepy and laying on the floor to watch the football games.)

Of course, all coaches have now found that water itself, does not water log you, but actually helps keep your system clean and operating at a high performance.

No one really needs all that salt and sugar that is in Gator Ade. However, it is one way for the coaches to get their athletes to consume water during a sweaty exercise.

Sorry for the long answer. But, your question reminded me of my past racquetball tournaments.
