Is it just me or is there an odd similarity between children believing in santa claus, and adults believing in a God? If you are good, santa will bring you presents (God will let you into heaven), if you are bad, you get coal in your stocking (you get sent to hell).
just a thought

So then,

Children/Santa : Adults/God

Santa is God to children, and God is Santa to adults.

So then it follows that Santa is God.

Sounds about right.

Ahhh, you can make that analogy but I am not a child much like your question is...childish. Sorry bro God is a reality. You may distort it anyway you'd like but its most definitely is true. Does it matter that I am so sure of this and you obviously question it, unfortunately yes. However, as an atheist would conclude we evolved from nothing, which I know doesn't scientifically exist in this reality. Nothing evolves from nothing so to conclude there is no God is a bit presumptious.

The tough part is convincing you why, well I cant do that because unfortunately that takes some form of faith. Which its apparant you dont have. However I have hypothesized there must be a God since its illogical not to. We did not concieve ourselves and we also did not come out of no where. There is a God and if it perplexes you then who may God then so be it. However humans have proven their capabilities, Gods I've yet to prove. God goes over any human attribute you can try to conclude for it, therefore to conclude in the non-existance is absurd since you are too limited in this state evolution to do so.

We know next to nothing in this present state of evolution, just like we absurd to think science and God dont co-exist. I believe in evolution and I believe in God. In fact, evolution has strengthened my belief in one.

You know even when I try to have a real conversation with christians about religion because they want to know how POSSIBLY someone could not believe what they do, this comes up.

Q: Why cant you believe there is a god?

A: = Q: Could I talk you into believing in Santa? Even if I kept on and on and on an on and............Oh come on man just believe what I believe in and we can both get really cool presents that we can never use or see. But we can waste our life talking about how cool it would be to get it someday!

Thats probably the only similarity.

Believing in God isn't just about heaven and hell, it's about how to live as a Christian, how to live a good life.

Believing in God brings peace, love and a sense of purpose to some people's lives. Why is that so bad?

I can see that on the surface it can seem very similar. However, getting to heaven has nothing to do with us being good or bad. We're all bad and deserve hell. God, in His infinite mercy, can forgive us our sins through Jesus Christ. It's a free gift not earned through works.

I think there is. It means that kids are "good" so that Santa will give them presents (materialistic) but then it's also self serving to be good just so you won't go to hell.

It's just you.

First of all, it's through faith, not works, that you enter into heaven. Second, you are not sent to Hell. You are given free will to accept God into your heart. We are all born sinners, but by accepting God's grace, we enter into heaven. You send yourself to hell.

There is a whole lot more to this, but the concept is too complicated to dedicate pages of scripture on Yahoo! for explanation.

Its a good comparison.
and i'm sure its what a ton of people believe. (that if your good God will let you into heaven, and if your bad, you dont have a chance and your going to hell)
but thats not true.
God will let you into heaven if your sinless. No human is sinless. We all sin. But, Jesus came to die for us and he covered all of our sins (if you believe and know). But if you decide to turn away from God you'll be sent to hell.
Good comparison though
