After sorting through your "question" for several minutes trying to figure out where one sentence begins and another ends, (grammar anyone?) I think I came up with my answer. For one thing, you are in no way "forced" to stand during said songs. It is generally requested that you participate, but you are well within your rights to stay seated. There is no law demanding that you stand during the song or you will be punished. If you're worried about causing a scene, just stand up. Would it kill you to stand for two minutes? The song is an American tradition more than a symbol of Christianity today, and it's not one that's getting changed anytime soon. On the issue of whether or not there is a God, all I have to say is this; no one on this earth knows for certain whether or not a higher power actually exists. So what if some people choose to believe in God and the Bible. If it in their minds enriches their lives, why is it a negative thing? Why do you feel the need to eliminate the one thing that brings some people joy and enlightenment? Believe what you want and allow others to have their beliefs.

You're question would be a lot easier to read if you used some punctuation and capital letters from time to time. Anyway, I don't think the concept of separation of church and state applies to your question. I assume when you mention stadium that you are referring to a ball game. Football is not church nor is it a government activity so it's not the same as saying the pledge of allegiance in congress or saying a prayer at a senate meeting or in school. It's simply a recreational activity and the opening of a sports event with the National Anthem is nothing more than a tradition. I have been to many baseball and football games and there are always plenty of people who don't stand and I've never actually seen anyone pay any attention to them, much less say anything. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened, of course. People choose to believe in God for their own personal reasons and people choose not too in the same manner. I find the level of intolerance in Athiests just as high as that that is found in the religious world, Christian or otherwise, and it baffles me. Everyone is so angry, but that's another question for another day. Perhaps you should avoid public places if you find views contrary to your own so distasteful, or perhaps you could learn to find a little joy so that your anger won't consume you. Good luck.

First of all, a baseball game is NOT state run, therefore they can play whatever they want. If you don't like what they are doing at the baseball game, then don't go.

Furthermore, the separation of church and state was originally meant to simply prevent a government from meddelinig in religious affairs. It should not be a way of forcing people to drive their religious beliefs underground just so that people like you don't have to see them.

It is entirely unreasonable for you to expect everyone to cater to your tastes, and I am certain no one has FORCED you to sing God Bless America. You may have had to listen to it, but then I have had to listen to some pretty unsavory rap music and did not complain. Everyone has to experience things they don't agree with and that's part of the beauty of America. People are free to express themselves however they want be that by singing God Bless America, or by Abstaining from singing it.

You have the right to not participate in singing it, but don't you dare say that I don't have the right to sing it.

This is not a forced issue, especial at a professional ballgame. The majority of people do want to sing it. Separation of church and state does not apply to a professional sport. The team is usually owned by a company. So is the stadium. If you don't want to sing don't sing.
Freedom of speech does apply to this though.

because it creates solidarity of a nation over a 'common' belief in God.

I think the majority of Americans believe in God and for the most part it brings people peace and a feeling of love.
But I do think that the god bless America is nationalism and serves to remind Americans how great their country is so that they will be ready to support their country in favor of an opposing country.....like Iraq for instance.

However, I would say that its ok to believe in God if it provides you peace, just learn from the lessons of the Bible instead of using it as a way to be prejudiced against non-Christians.

Nobody forces anyone to sing "God Bless America." It is not our national anthem. We are not forced to sing *that*, either, for that matter.

They don't force you to sing, they just ask you to, and it is polite to stand to show respect for the country. It is all up to you, if you want to say anything.

That song is really beautiful. If you don't want to conform to the social convention, now you can have thousands of peaceful ways to work for the change.

Blah blah blah... I agree with you but maybe you should make your argument in a more coherent manner - that was really hard to read, try punctuation once in a while! I got the gist though and I'm totally with you, rambler! : )
