"by timer" do you mean, "sleep timer"? check your owners manual, and turn off, timer.
#sounds more like a switching fault, (you need a serviceman).
good luck

I'm not sure what you mean by "timer"? But I'll assume you are getting power to the set.
Make sure your cable box or satellite box is on.
Check the TV input selection, usually you have to choose between video 1, 2, 3, etc.
If this doesn't work, try unplugging the TV for about a minute, then plug it back in and try turning it on.
If it still doesn't work call the toll free number in the manual if it is still under waranty. Otherwise call a repairman.

If this is a new TV, give it a minute or 2 to warm up. After a while it will turn on. Also, to make sure that it is working, press the menu button after a few minutes. If you see the menu come up, there is nothing wrong with your TV. Otherwise I would get a service technician to take a look at it or in most stores now they offer some sort of exchange for a defective TV within the first 30 days, depending on the stores policy.

I take it no lights come on what-so-ever? If so, see if a VCR will work or a DVD player will work. If it does not turn on at all, check to see if the circuit breaker for the outlet is tripped. If the outlet is fine, look and see if there are any fuses that can be checked and replaced. If all of those seem ok, then you will have to take it to get repaired, or, just go buy a new tv, it would probably be cheaper anyhow. Unfortunatly, if its past like 90 days old, the limited warrenty is expired on it, so you are screwed. Sorry. If you bought a no name brand, like a Senith, instead of Zenith, or Zony instead of Sony, then it was bound to break. Try a name brand, it might be a little more money, but they are build to last.

Hit it HARD. *it always works for me* and if it doesn't work at least you got a chance to work off all the anger you have towards the TV.
