I am polish and pierogies are always savory....meaning not sweet. Possibly you are thinking of apple dumplings which to some, would look similar. An apple (fresh) could not be cooked in a pierogi because the cooking time is too short. If you cooked it longer, the dough would become tough....like eating the tire on a chevy.
