Sounds like you really need to have a dr. look at him and speak with his teacher. As for help near Yonkers, i can tell you this. DO NOT send this child to a Yonkers Public School. they will do him a disservice and will not provide the help he may need. He may need special schooling.

The easy answer would be ADHD but the other problems you are describing baby talk, immaturity may be indicative of a developmental delay. Or it could just be that he isn't emotionally ready for school (typical of boys at this age) and another year of kindergarten would be all he needed to "catch up" with his same age peers. I'm not sure about your particular region but I'd get an psychoeducational evaluation and then give him another chance in kindergarten (using the results of the evaluation to guide your family and the teacher) to see how things go before looking for a special school.

I think that your nephew needs to see a doctor to see if there is anything physically wrong with him... The next step would be to see a psychologist to see if there is some cognitive dysfunction.... I am surprised that the teacher wants to keep him back... I was under the impression that at kindergarden age, educators were in the habit of giving children the benefit of the doubt. Children do develop normally at different rates... that could be all it is.

I have a 7 year old autistic daughter. I love her with all my heart. His behavior sounds familiar.
ask any teacher, tutor or administrator at his school who the special needs teachers are, then get with them, they will have all the contact info you need for a gifted or inhibited student in your area. The mind is a wondrous place, some children live there. good luck, The kids worry us so.

better to repeat now than later. If he DOESN'T have some medical condition then he has been pandered to. It just doesnt do children any favours to make special allowances for them like the food thing you mentioned. If he has not been medically diagnosed with any condition then the sooner he is mainstreamed the better.

sounds like autism. get a doctor to diagnose then run don't walk to special ed at any school. special ed helps kids who learn in a different way get taught in a different way. also very intelligent kids get bored and lose interest so maybe an iq test is in order.

You need to talk to his school. They are required to help you figure this out, and required to provide an education to him that meets his individual needs.
