Depends on where you live, the season etc but here goes:
Daisies
Ranunculuses
Stock
Baby's Breath
Carnations
You might even want to use a lot of greenery or use pretty little potted plants. You can also rent little trees and shrubberies and put little lights in them. There's also no law that your centerpieces have to be flowers. You could stack pretty favors on rented cake plates etc. Have fun and congrats on your wedding.

I went with fake flowers. If you go to like a fabric and crafts store, you can find some really pretty ones there. There are even wholesalers that will sell them in bulk at cheap prices. I was lucky enough to know someone who did flower arrangements on the side and agreed to put it all together if i showed her the designs i wanted and bought the flowers. I went with fake and bought them at a craft store and was able to have flowers for me, the wedding party (only maid of honor, best man, flower girl), and decorations for under $100. The choices out there for good quality fake flowers are endless so take the time to research...if you're willing to do the traveling and spend the time making phone calls to do price comparisons, you'll get a good deal.

If you want a break. Don't tell them it's for a wedding. It has been shown that the price is usually doubled for the occasion. You can also rent flowers! They are usually silk and look amazing in the pictures.

Stick with carnations or daisies...stay away from flowers that are out of season during the months of your wedding...sunflowers in november are a bad idea!

Lillies or carnations. Another nice idea is lavender in some fall bouquets of mums, leaves etc. Smells beautiful and inexpensive.

I think it depends if you like flowers or not, many people spend a lot of money on flowers because they consider them beautiful. However someone like me, I do not like them so my flower budget will be very low. Cheap, pretty flowers sounds good. Sometimes simple things are nicer than elegant extravagant things.

Buy the flowers yourself and make your own bouquet or have someone make it for you. You can buy all the things you need to make your own bouquets at really good craft stores. And there are an amazing amount of excellent flowers at a majority of grocery stores.
Remember to make one big one , and one small one for tossing to your single friends!

whatever is in season would be least expensive (ex. don't try to get sunflowers in january). but daisies are always a great choice. also just do flowers for bouquets and the ceremony. try something else for the centerpieces.
