Job was a prosperous farmer living in the land of Uz. He had thousands of sheep, camels, and other livestock, a large family, and many servants. Suddenly, Satan the Accuser came before God claiming that Job was trusting God only because he was wealthy and everything was going well for him. And so the testing of Job's faith began.
Satan was allowed to destroy Job's children, servants, livestock, herdsmen, and home; but Job continued to trust in God. Next Satan attacked Job physically, covering him with painful sores. Job's wife told him to curse God and die, but Job suffered in silence.
Job was faithful and was restored to happiness and wealth.

He allows Satan to do all sorts of bad things to test Job's firm trust in God. And then orders Satan to compensate Job abundantly for his thankful patience.
This ancient story gives Satan tremendous power to test man, and after his failure, God still uses him to test people until now. This gives less impression of faith than of fear.
People of our day should understand this parable with a progressive mind. We don't have to fear the non-existent Satan and don't expect physical compensation like Job.

The way I read it, God doesn't test Job. God allows Satan to toy with him by taking everything he has but his life.

In the book of James chapter 1 verse13, this scripture says, When under trial let no one say, I am being tried by God. For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone.

Job was a very Godly man who endured an enormous amout of suffering while remaining Faithful to God. The story begans with Job losing His children. His many possessions And even His own Health..All with in a short period of time.Only Jobs Wife escaped the ruin that Satan Inflicted upon Him. Then Job,s freinds came to comfort Him and to reflect on the purpose for His suffering. They each conisidered the basic question. As all will who are not true severs of our Lord God.And puts our full trust in Him.And dont fear nothing but Him...So Satan is the one who puts Job,s faith to a Test. The question that Job,s freinds ask Him was. Why must we endure suffering when God is powerful enough to do something about it ? Job,s Wife simply declared it unfair , advising Job CURSE God and die 2:9 Each one of Jobs 3 freinds deleiverd speeches accounting for Job,s misery .Wanting Job to turn his back own God but Job ,s Faith and trust in God through all of what He had been put through by Satan was strong enough to know that the God He severed was not speaking through his freinds that that was Satan coming through his so called freinds..Several others tryed also to convence Job that God had turned own Him.But all of them failed to provide Job with a satisfactory answer...Finally, God Him self spoke directly to Job asking him a long list of questions.,that forced him to recognize his finite understanding of life. Job relized that ultimately God is in charge and knows what He is doing. So Job remained silent and stood in awe of God,s sovereighnty in the end ,God restored Job,s health , possessions and Family. What was the purpose of this was to demonstrate God.s sovereignty, and address the problem of innocent suffering....Job was blessed to of had God own his side or Satan would of won ..You really need to read the book of Job it is amazing.I hope this helps you God bless you through your learning...God Bless the U.S.A. And all....

He allows Satan to make him suffer by making him ill, taking away his family and wealth, etc. This wasn't done to test him, though, if I remember correctly it was to prove that he had great faith in God.

God tests his faith by taking away everything Job loves...his job, his family, friends, and health. Job does not loose his faith and God restores his life by seven and gives him happiness.

Kills his kids, destroys his home, gives him a horrible disease and makes him deal with "friends" that like to do nothing more than antaganize him. But it wasn't God, it was Satan.
