Several things. I used to get them all the time for different reasons.

1. You have been inactive for a great deal of time and so your muscle is spasming.

2. You have been recently working out and perhaps either pushing too hard or not stretching after you work out.

3. Sometimes, dehydration can cause muscle spasms (side stitches, etc.) So, if you are exercising, you might not be drinking enough water.

4. Low potassium.

If you are experiencing a charlie horse, the best thing you can do at the moment is gently stretch the muscle and massage the area. If it's *really* starting to bother you, you can contact your doctor. Anyways, I hope this helps you out! Take care.

I hope its not the same as my problem. I had Charlie Horses in my calf and it felt like my calf was pulled. It ended up being a compression of my S1 nerve from a bulging disk. Hopefully its just a potassium imbalance.

the cause of your Charlie horse could be caused by walking to much, or a new exercise, or if you have any kids it can be from playing with your kids, or it can Evan be from the pair of shoes that you weir.

Could be low on sodium. Eat something salty and drink a glass of water or Gatorade.
