I want to send a small, unopened jar of olives to Northern Mainland China. Is this OK to do? Thanks!

nakaibj, I'll take my friend's word for it. She can't get olives. Besides, I'm sending a care package anyways.

Sorry to tell you that it is a NO No to send food to China. You can try to send it through normal post but if they open it they just keep it. If you send it through a company like DHL or something you will have to declare it - most of them will not accept the parcel. The jar of olives at the end will cost you 3 time the price that you pay for - not worth it.

I would think it would be alright to send your food parcel through the post. Besides, big companies ship large crates of food to almost everywhere. One little jar of olives should be fine in a well-packaged, well-wrapped postal box with all the addresses and postage stamps in the right places and make it to its destination safe and sound.

Olives are available in abundance in super-markets and small outlets all over China and at a comparable price, why pay an exorbitant price for the mail ?

Most definitely. I have received food by regular post, by Fed Ex, and by UPS. I have never had a problem getting anything my family has shipped, with the exception of an envelope of photographs of my niece.

BTW, I find Fed Ex to have the fastest shipping of the three. I received one package within 4 days of it being shipped, the rest usually arrived within 6 days or so. UPS seems to take about 10-14 days. Regular air mail takes about a month to my area.
