Ever since I did the Atkins diet 3 years ago, I have had episodes of horrible (and unexpected) diarrhea. It can happen anytime, anywhere and have caused me to really be depressed and anxious over the whole thing. I've noticed that about 20 - 30 minutes after I eat something, I have to RUN to the toilet and believe me, pain and an upset stomach go right along with this. How are people who have this problem dealing with it? I'm afraid to travel or go to friends houses for dinner because of the embarassment!

Get yourself checked out for celiac disease if you haven't already. It is treatable, and has many of the symptoms of IBS. Best wishes.

Unfortunately I cant help you, but I can tell you that I also have this problem. I was on the Atkins diet several years ago too. I have never considered that there may be a connection between the two until now. I have anxiety disorder and I always blamed it for the IBS. Maybe Atkins was the cause though.....

I did lose alot of weight on the diet but I know it has to be physically bad on a person eating those foods all the time. I have regained the weight now, plus some.

Good luck to you.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome... this is a vague disorder because the cause can be psychological, however, psychological approach in treating this disorder had not been successful. Perhaps the best approach would be to avoid the type of food that causes the diarrhea, try eating food with fiber, such as fruits... but then again, this disorder has a tendency to cause constipation.. so try the type of food again that does not cause constipation... perhaps in a matter of time, your body will eventually tune back to normal again.

That sounds really aweful! Too much diahrea can cause you more problems. I'm thinking you should talk to a professional about that. Don't let your body go through that. I know you can become extremely dehydrated from that..which in turn can cause other problems. For now drink alot of fluids and call your doctor

Please see a doctor. This is just a symptom of what could be a larger problem. It may be caused by the diet or the diet may be causing some other problem. Get check out & let the doctor know about your diet and all the circumstance of your problem.
