join a support group. i am sure there are others with similar fears. the most important thing you can do is love yourself regardless of your size and know that even if you cheat a little you are still a special person. sounds like you are putting too much effort in to controlling your eating habits to prevent gaining weight but you are not nourishing your self worth.

We hear all the time about the modern problem with obesity. I am very familiar with the problem, I have had a fat problem all of my life. I understand the fear of gaining weight at this point and while you need to WATCH your weight, it is equally important not to trade one problem for another one!
At 18,it should be a fairly easy matter to control your weigh, but I know it is easy to become obsessed with it.
I think I know a way for you to be comfortable. You should have finished growing by now, not if you get any taller be sure to adjust your numbers. Pick a decent weight for your height and bone structure. For example, let us say the you have decided that 180 pounds is a reasonable weight for you. That should include some body fat, you need to have some body fat. Weigh yourself every week on the same day and the same time of day. If you weigh before breakfast, then always weigh before breakfast. Small weight changes occur dependent upon a lot of things, so you do NOT need to chase one pound up and down the scale. When your weight reaches 182, then cut back on your intake. When it drops to 180, then go back to normal eating. If you find that you need to go back on the diet every couple of weeks, then you will need to leave something off of what we are calling normal eating habits.
Above all, when your numbers are good, try to not even think about your weight. After you have done this or something close to it for a few months, then you will gain confidence that you will not balloon up overnight!
Exercise and physical activity are REALLY important. If you go for a walk, there is NO refrigerator there to open. While exercise is not sufficient to burn away excess calories, regular exercise and activity will increase your metabolism and your body will burn more calories even at rest.
Eat lots of complex carbohydrates and don't find yourself real hungry with nothing nearby to eat except a candy bar. Besides an active 18 year old should be able to eat a candy bar once a week or every other week with not appreciable weight gain.

I once had body weight issues and now don't ever and it's such a relief to get over. Now I'm a normal weight and don't worry so much about things. The book Intuitive Eating is excellent and discusses some of these issues. However, with this amount of anxiety, you may want to get some therapy or something to that effect. It sounds a bit like body image issues

That is perfectly normal. I had the same deal but guess what? that will never go away. Your body is a machine and you need to take care of it. you need to learn to excersize so that if you do eat 100 more calories perday it doesn't wind up adding up over the months, and learn to KEEP eating healthy so that you will get good nutrition to keep your energy level up. There is nothing wrong with you. You just need to boost you schedule from lose weight mode to Get fit mode. Because get fit mode is what get you from just thin to being like those hot athaletes that you admire. It also helps keep you from fretting over food. Good luck.

You're obviously having anxiety issues over this, and you could speak to your doctor about it. Try to enjoy being a normal weight as much as possible. Something else you could try would be to give yourself one day a week to "cheat". Decide that on "Saturdays", you are allowed to have a treat of your choice, and then resolve to behave yourself the rest of the week. This should help to reduce your anxiety, as you've given yourself permission to cheat within reason.
Good luck, and congratulations!
