Take a large jar and put one string of white mini bulbs in the jar and let the plug-in end hang out of jar. Next fill the jar with your favorite potpourri. It doesn't have to be packed in, just loosely around them. If you can pull the lights up into the potpourri this will show more of the lights than if you leave all of them in the bottom of the jar. Take a small crocheted doily and weave small ribbon through the holes. Put doily over jar mouth and tighten ribbons to hold in place. If your good at tying bows this will keep the doily on the jar mouth better, if not just tie a knot in the ribbon. Take the plug- in end and insert in to a receptacle. The heat from the bulbs warms up the potpourri just enough to give off a scent. Replace potpourri when all the scent is gone.

Place a small string of Christmas lights in jar. Add potpourri and put a lace doily on top with ribbon laced thru the holes. Decorate top of doily with small flower of some sort. Makes a great smelling addition to bathrooms. You can color coordinate the jar to the room.

If you don't have a recipe-try decorating the jar. when I was a Kid one hundred years ago-my aunt would make a pattern of a bird or some animal and stuffed it with cotton this was sewed and fitted on the jar lid and used as a pin cushion, and the glass bottom of the jar to hold buttons, or pins or any thing.

Wonderful gift idea. Our group did layered cookies in a jar & drink mixes !
Try these sights www.allrecipes.com & cdkitchen they have lots of great ones. Your local library also should have the Gooseberry Patch Cookbook of dry mixes.
One of the most popular mixes is the Russian Tea (made w/Tang) it is a great drink to warm you up ! You can get small pieces of fabric & tie cinnamon sticks to the lid.
Goodluck & have fun!!

A really cool one for kids is a jar full of beans..then you mix it with tiny things for them to try and find. For instance...a barbie shoe, a penny, a dime, an eraser..whatever you can find. Then you make a list outside the jar and see how many they can find. It's a great car riding pass time.

If you know how to can fruit and veggies, that would make a nice gift. Especially the fruits and veggies that can't be found in some areas. I know my friend enjoys getting sweet white corn from her relatives that she can enjoy in the winter. What I did one year is buy some olive oil (store brand) and put fresh herbs to flavor the oil. My relatives loved it.
