Oscar is bigger, hits harder, (ask Vargas & Mayorga!) and is just as skilled as Mayweather. Mayweather was badly hurt against Chop Chop Corley who isn't even a big puncher. I think his chin is questionable, it's just a matter of someone getting to it, and Oscar has all the tools to get to that chin and end this fight by knockout! Tell me why he can't?

sigma b, Did you happen to catch Oscar's fight against Ricardo Mayorga in May of this year? That sure looked like a knockout to me!

To bigdagobo(what a name!), go back and watch Mayweather's fight against Demarcus Corley and tell me he wasn't badly hurt in that fight(forgot exactly what round, i think it was 2 or 3). I'm telling you his chin is suspect!!

Michael S, Nice job on trying to make Mayweather look like Superman and Oscar look like Clark Kent, but first of all yes, he lost to Mosley(but dominated? c'mon!) in the 1st fight but the majority of experts including hbo's team thought he won the 2nd fight, and yes,he did give away the last 3 of 4 rounds in the Trinidad fight only after boxing Trinidad's ears off for the 1st 8 rounds(we all know Oscar got robbed!). And you say he was "destroyed" by Hopkins? Looks like to me he was fighting a near even fight with the middle weight champion for 8 rounds until he got caught with a perfect body shot.Tyson destroyed Spinks, i would hardly say Hopkins "destroyed' De La Hoya. And you put up Mayweather's record, but you should've put Oscar's record beside it so we can compare the two. How many hall of famers are on Floyd's record? Oscar has at least 4 (Hopkins, Whittaker, Trinidad, Chavez) Oscar has losses on his record because he takes chances against the best! He will knock Floyd Out!

To Carlos, Yes, Trinidad was pressing but he wasn't EFFECTIVE! How many clean punches did he land on Oscar even before Oscar gave away the last 3 or 4 rounds? Oscar hit him easily and Tito's face even started to swell a little. And i'm objective, i admit that wasn't the smartest thing for Oscar to do in giving away those last rounds like he did and he did lose some respect from some fans, but last time i checked the fight was a 12 round fight, and no sane boxing fan that saw that fight would not say that Oscar did not win at least 8 or 9 of those rounds! He got Jacked! Period! If i thought Trinidad beat Oscar Legit, i would have no problem admitting it. As far as Hopkins body shot goes, my cousin's boxing trainer who has been training boxers for over 15 years sumed it up best for me when he said, Oscar got hit in a very vulnerable area by that shot, when you get hit there the punch doesn't have to be devastating, it paralyzes you and takes your breath away for few seconds.

To Carlos(pt 2.) So i do think the body shot from Hopkins was legit. Oscar was hurt and he just could not get up and he lost. Plain and simple! I am a huge Oscar fan but i can admit when he loses, i thought that Whittaker beat him and i also thought that Quartey was winning the fight going into that final round but Oscar pulled it out with the 12th round knockdown. But i felt he was robbed in the 2nd Mosley fight and he was Definitely robbed at gunpoint in the Trinidad fight! Those judges were henchmen and Don King was the Godfather!

To Carlos(pt.3) It's ok, we can agree to disagree and still have fun! I stated that i thought Oscar lost to Whittaker and i also thought he did lose to Sturm. And you say it's not about math with him and Tito? Well, no matter how you slice it, 8 is greater than 4 and Stevie Wonder could see that Oscar won at least 8 of those rounds! I could get with your point if Tito had scored a couple of knockdowns or beat Oscar up real bad in the rounds that Oscar gave away, But Tito still didn't do anything! That's my whole point, he wasn't effective! And what is one of the things that Harold Letterman says judges are looking for? Effective Aggression! Carlos, do me a big favor, watch that fight again and score it yourself (and be objective) and see if you can give Tito any 7 rounds in that fight! And do it honestly! And i invite some others who answered this question to do the same. And thank you for the compliment! (see, i'm still a lady!)

There isn't a reason why he can't knockout Floyd, Floyd's style is tailor made for Oscar, everybody wants to say that "Floyd Sr, training Oscar will be the biggest difference in this fight" and I write to you and everybody else nonsense! Oscar has the one key weapon to beat the tuck and roll style that all the Mayweathers used, the same weapon Julio Cesar Chavez used to dismantle Floyd's Uncle Roger, the left hook.
When Julio fought Roger, who Floyd fights exactly like it was the left hook that landed and hurt Roger and allowed Julio to go upstairs on Roger. Gilberto Reyes came up with the plan to attack Rogers body at all cost, no matter what Roger threw Julio was to stay on the body and keep throwing his left hook to Rogers liver for the first 5 rounds nothing but BODY, BODY, BODY. Any fighter who tries to stand there and exchange and unload bombs on Floyd's head will lose. He's way too slick for that. The body attack is key here.
Oscar is a converted Southpaw meaning when he was a little kid his father switched his left handed stance around and made him fight as a right handed fighter all Oscars power is in his left hook. Oscar knows the value of a great body shot, a perfect example would be his fight with Hopkins. Floyd Sr. knows that this is key to beating his son and jumped on the Bandwagon for a estimated 3 million dollars, so he can look like the brain trust and Architect who came up with the plan to beat Floyd when Oscar had the tools all along.
Thank you for the great question Loverly Lady Vette.

Oscar is a guy with a fighters career behind him. So the real question is "Can Oscar resurrect his career one more time?" Does he have what it takes to get back in the gym one more time and fight like he really wants to win? I suspect a Mayweather / De la Hoya fight would command a rich purse. I also suspect the motivation here would be the money, not the battle (of course, it always is the money, but the audience likes to at least think it is the battle!). I imagine Oscar wins, but this is a big guy coming down to fight a little guy. Remember Ali v. Martin? (the ladies). Tables were turned on this one... Ali the younger, bigger fighter fighting Martin, the older smaller fighter. That was an easy one to pick.

Man, i had to get in on this one! A lot of good answers but i think Pancho said it best. That is one of the many questions surrounding this fight, can Mayweather take Oscar's punch? Floyd's defense is so good that he rarely gets hit with a big punch, so we really don't know how he will react if Oscar catches him flush on the chin with that half-hook, half-uppercut that Oscar likes to throw with speed and power. Floyd is no fool, he is not going to stand in front of Oscar and trade with him (despite what he said). Floyd will try to fight the same type of fight that Leonard fought against Hagler,(i'll bet he watches tapes of that fight) moving, flurrying, and trying to steal rounds. The one difference is that i think Oscar still has enough left to stalk Floyd and corner him and make him fight, Hagler was just to slow to do that against Ray. But i think at some point in this fight, a lot of questions about Floyd's chin will be answered because Oscar will eventually catch him with a big punch. Oscar is to fast not too. Floyd will either suck it up and take it or he will crumble. We'll all find out May 5th!

Hey Sigman, Mayweather was knocked down in the 6th round against Carlos Hernandez.
Many people will say that Jose Castillo went even up with Floyd.
Oscar is faster and stronger than Castillo, also Oscar has a very underrated chin and defense.
I doubt that Floyd will allow Oscar to knock him out, meaning he will not just do the shoulder roll, but avoid Oscar, without punching back.
He will outspeed Oscar, but will not engage.
He will try to steal rounds at the end of each round, but Oscar will be stalking him the whole fight and throw the more meaningful punches.
Oscar will win on effective aggression, while Floyd plays like Winky Wright in round 12 against Taylor.
maybe its a gift decision in Floyds and his fans eyes, but Oscar will win in Vegas, i doubt he will catch Foyd with a clean enough punch to KO Mayweather.

First of all that is completely untrue! Mayweather was not badly hurt against chop chop corley. I watched the fight several times. If you dont believe me watch it again or go to this site. It nevers say anything in the commentary about him being hurt . https://www.hbo.com/boxing/events/2004/0522_mayweather_corley/columns/index.html. Corley landed nice hard shots that landed and Floyd took them he was never in trouble or there was no concern. And the only reason Chop Chop landed those shots were because Floyd was brawling with him back and forth first! Everybody always says fighters chins are suspect just because they have never been knocked out or knocked down. Floyd Mayweather has never really been knocked down. Against Carlos Hernandez he broke his hand after a punch to Hernadez head and nilt in pain causing his other hand to touch the canvas so the ref ruled as a knock down. Mayweather has taken hard shots plenty of time and just brushed them off. Oscar is no match. Floyd will beat the hell out of him then he will dismantle Margorito. The only way this guy will possibly lose is when he dies or unless he does something like keep moving up as he gets older. Other then that there is no one that will ever beat him doing these years of his life! I am so tired of people saying that he has not fought any body. Lets take a look at some of his notable fights!
FLOYD MAYWEATHER FIGHTS(Records of opponents prior 2 bout)
Carlos Baldomir 43-9-6 TKO 12
Zab Judah 34-3 UD 12
Sharmba Mitchell 56-4 TKO 6
Arturo Gatti, 39-6 TKO 6
DeMarcus Corley 28-2-1 UD 12
Jose Luis Castillo 46-5-1 UD 12
Diego Corrales 33-0 TKO 10
Victoriano Sosa 35-2-2 UD 12
Phillip N'dou 31-1 TKO 7
Jesus Chavez 36-1 TKO 9
Carlos Hernandez 33-2-1 UD 12
Carlos Gerena 34-2 TKO 7
Justin Juuko 33-2-1 KO 9
Angel Manfredy 25-2-1 TKO 2
Genaro Hernandez 38-1-1 TKO 8
Carlos Alberto R. Rios 44-2-1 UD 12
I mean he did not just fight push over guys with sorry records. He has always fought the top champion, contenders and.or prospects doing his years. Oscar was dominated by Mosley twice, beaten by Trinidad for running, destroyed against Hopkins,
and he lost to all 3 of these fighters I am about to name but they handed him the fight. Pernell Whitaker, Ike Quartey, and Felix Sturm. But I must admit Oscar has fought top competition as well. Its just that his fights with majority of those major names came doing a period of time when that was the hottest division in boxing. Please note just because you have not heard of a fighter does not mean that he is not good competition. Do you know how many fighters are out there in the game. Im gonna lose my mind if another person says he is dodging Margorito. He declined the fight because he was waiting on a possible 20 million dollar pay day (vs. 8 million to fight Margorito) from oscar the first go around and oscar did not step up to the plate so by that time Margorito had a fight and Floyd went on to fight Gatti, Judah, Baldomir. Please do not believe that foolishness. Floyd Mayweather would beat the hell out of Tony Margorito. Paul Williams would give him a harder fight then Margarito. Plus Margarito has been dodging Williams.

Oscar has an excellent chance to knock Floyd out. That's one of the reasons that makes this fight so intriguing because we don't know if Floyd can take Oscar's punch. I've stated numerous times on here that Oscar has the best chance of anyone to beat Floyd because he has the best chance to nail Floyd with a punch that Floyd won't see coming with his hand speed. Floyd is used to fighting much slower fighters like Baldomir, Gatti, Castillo, etc, and he makes them look like they're in slow motion because he is much, much faster than them. While he may hold a slight edge over De la Hoya in hand speed, Oscar won't be overwhelmed by Floyd's speed because he will counter with speed of his own. And that will give Mayweather trouble because he's not used to it. And i really think Oscar can hurt Floyd to the body with fast, sharp left hooks. A lot will be on the line when they fight and i think both men will try to step up their game to beat the other.

The only reason, Oscar is not fast enough. Yes, Floyd was hurt against Chop,Chop but what ended up happening. Floyd wasn't as smart of a fighter as he is now and he knows his chin is not the greatest so he makes up for it with his footwork and head movement. De La Hoya would never catch him with a clean shot to the dome. Ask Bernard Hopkins who is much slower than Floyd.

Lovely Lady - Oscar's got a damn good chance to win this fight. He's got this fight set up the way he wants it. I don't see him knocking out Floyd because Floyd won't stand and trade with Oscar. Look for him to be constantly on the move. Mayweather would be foolish to stand stationary and in front of Oscar. Look for Floyd to come into this fight at 150lbs. no more no less. He'll want to be able to use that "bicycle". Once again look for constant movement from Mayweather.

Floyd was not badly hurt he wasn't wobbled. he was caught with a good clean shot. but oscar has been knocked out by body blows and dropped in fights multiple times. the only time floyd has ever been called for a knock down was when he broke his hand during a fight. floyd will win an easy ud after simply outclassing a slow plodding boxer. but to answer your question nothing is stopping Oscar from getting a lucky punch in except the defensive prowess of mayweather.
