Get off sugars, caffeine, and simple carbohydrates such as things made with white flour, and start eating raw vegetables, whole grains, fruits, cheese, and lean meats. Do this for at least two weeks and see if you start feeling better emotionally. I am so serious about this. You may be amazed at the difference it makes.

Also, find someone to talk to. If you don't have a friend or family member who listens objectively with support and understanding, go to a church and ask for help. If you don't find the right person at the first church, go to another.........and another...........and another...........whatever it takes to find that right counsel who really will help you.

Whatever you do, hang in there..............one day at a time, one hour at a time, one moment at a time........whatever it takes to get through the difficulties and to a better time. And that better time will come. Just DON'T GIVE UP, and don't give in to depression. You will one day look back and be happy you stuck it out. And the people who love you will still have you. Don't put them through the worst thing a person can go though..........the loss of a loved one through suicide. That is something a person can never get over.

Please just hang in there Anthony..............and don't be afraid to ask for help. Help is out there. And know that things WILL get better. :)

P.S. Check with your local Mental Health Association. They can direct you to available help that will be affordable for you........whether that be a reduced rate, or even free services.

Good luck...............and again, HANG IN THERE. Ask for HELP. It WILL get better. And STAY AWAY from SUGAR, CAFFEINE, and WHITE FLOUR. :)

Although medications, such as SSRI's -are helpful in some cases, others benefit from therapy sessions, group therapy,or help from spirituality. Also realizing that depression is a true illness- not a character flaw or laziness. Some depression is situational or based on certain events, this responds well to therapy, but in the case of a chemical imbalance (such as seratonin or dopamine) meds may be required, at least until the person is out of danger. If the depression is genetic, runs in the family etc.. it is physical. So, that would be like telling a Cancer patient to meditate or go talk to a therapist as a way to treat the cancer. Talk to a professional- there are many treatment modalities now and help is available, in many forms- also on-line support groups and information (avoid the site's where people just dwell or discuss suicide etc..). If suicide is thought of or planned one must get help immediately!!! Good luck

Did you know that Zoloft, Prozac, Celexa, Paxil, Wellbutrin, Effexor and BuSpar are all generic and most are on Walmart's $4 dollars a month plan. One of those drugs has to work for you and I'm sure you can come up with less than a quarter a day to be happier and temper the suicidal thoughts. Besides Walmart many other stores are matching this price cut. I even think Walgreen's is doing it. However no medication is going to give you the will to live, that has to come from inside. Look at your family, your friends, the world around you, turn off the gloomy doomy news and take things day by day, that's how I get by

I too suffer from depression. If you can't afford meds walking or some form of exercise IS really good advice. Actually I've been told by my doctors that I should try to get outside at least 20 minutes a day...something about the natural light affecting the serotinin levels. It even works if its overcast outside. Also, try your local library for some self-help books. One I highly recommend is called, "Feeling Good." Don't forget that your local hospital should also have a crisis centre that you can turn to. They provide free counselling and can refer you to see a professional. CBT is also excellent (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) Try looking for a book called: Mind over mood. Currently I'm using meds and going to therapy. Its a constant struggle but your life is so much worth it!

There's always a way. Immediately, I would call you local mental health agency, they usually charge on a sliding scale. If you can't afford it, it's like $1 or near that. Or, look in your telephone directory for a Crisis Help Line phone no. and call them. They can certainly help you. Or, call your hospital and ask if they have a mental health dept. and call them for help. Or, call your Dr. or health dept. If you meet the income guidelines, and it seems you may, you can get prescription assistance to pay for your medication. Ask whichever Dr. or mental health agency you see about this. I was in the same boat and got therapy for $3 and free meds. There is always help out there. You just gotta do a little work to find it.

Try getting some lexapro from your doctor or anyother anti-depressants such as prozac. Wal-mart is now offering a 30 day prescription for four dollars. YOu should check it out. Another way is to talk to someone about you problems.

Are there no free clinics where you can go to receive help? Believe me, suicide is not the answer you think it is. I too am depressed from time to time, and it wasn't that many years ago that I considered it. If you can find something to occupy your time it would help, but look for clinic in your area, please, or a church, and good luck.

Seek out help from free local support groups. Regardless of who it's coming from, I always derive comfort from the sheer proximity to other souls. Best wishes.

BEEN THERE!! I found that my birth control was adding to my suicidal thoughts. I got off them and started on the following regime that can be purchased at any drugstore:

complete multivitamin
biotin
cinnamon (pills)
fiber pills
CLA (conjugated linoleic acid)
cranberry pills
green tea extract- pills
st. johns wort

These helped stabalize my receptors and my blood sugar both of which were causing me to have massive mood swings and violent moments.

Be Authentic-however that reveals itself!
Depression is just like what it sounds like-something inside of you has been depresses/repressed. Let it out!
Find people who are safe, loving, accepting, not toxic.
