The reason is they are children and all 32 teeth do not fit in his mouth. As the child grows the jaw bone grows, the baby teeth will fallout and new teeth starts to come out, as they come out there will be room for the new teeth and molars. The wisdom teeth may not fit, so later when the child is much older or adult they can be taken out, there are 4 wisdom teeth that we all usually get. The 1st permanent molars start coming out at maybe 10yrs old. Don't worry all the teeth will fit and your child will have a great smile.

Yes, 20 is the exact amount of teeth a 4 year old will have. There isn't enough room in their mouth for 32 teeth like adults. Don't worry, he will grow and so will his mouth, there will be room He will start losing teeth aroun 5-6 years old and then all the permanent teeth will start making their way in.

My daughter just turned 6 she has lost 6 teeth I was surprised she lost so many this quick It does not seem like she has room for them to grow back in. Her jaw is small..
I called dentist he said as she grows so will her jaw and gum line. I also asked if they come in crocked will she need braces, he said they usually don't even think of this until they are about 12 yrs old and have all their teeth and have had time to grow.
Good question I thought the same thing.
Take care!!

I have two small children 4 and 7. Yes, 20 is the maximum number of "baby teeth" that a child will get. My older child lost her first baby tooth at 5 and a half. She just turned 7 and last night she lost her 8th baby tooth. It's AMAZING how fast they fall out and new "adult" teeth begin to form. Around age six, 4 six year old molars begin to erupt.

Let nature take its course. 20 teeth at 4 years old is normal. His head and jaw are not fully grown.
Go back to work and quit worrying about stupid stuff. Egads.
