My vote goes for a new Honda Civic/Accord. Great gas mileage, insurance, reliability, and cool factor. They're great cars to learn on and have a high resale value. It's obvious your budget is higher than that so get her some nice rims and an after market stereo and she'll be all set.

What the heck, do not buy a sixteen year old a 2007 mustang. Trust me, no matter how good of a driver they think they are, its a bad idea. 16 year olds believe they are invincible and I know that sounds cliche but I'm 18 and I am just know becoming a safer driver. Its also better if you make your child work for their car. I had to have all A's and B's, a job and I had to have some sort of extra curiccular before I got my car. That makes you respect your car a lot more.

Get her reliable transportation. Buy a decent used car with not a lot of flash. She is SO young, you really don't want her to get distracted while driving and getting caught up in "showing off" to her friends. Seriously. Driving at her age is just chock full of distractions which is a big danger to teens. The chances of her having a fender bender is extremely high in the first year and having a beautiful brand new car will only add to that distraction and further add to the the expense with insurance. When she demonstrates that she is capable of driving well for at least a year or more, THEN get her something nicer if you have the finances to do so.

go for a two seater, that back seat can be a downfall.(joking)
Nah really though the mustangs safety features are pretty slim. *`some mid size cars-- Hyundai Entourage and Kia Sedona *`minivans-- the Mercedes M-class and Volvo XC90 luxury sport
*`utility vehicles; the Acura RDX, Honda Pilot and Subaru B9 Tribeca
*`midsize SUVs-- the Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester.
*`Large vehicles-- the Audi A-4, Saab 9-3 and Subaru Legacy (with optional stability control)

I wouldnt get her a Mustang as her first car. You want to get her something that wil get her around safely. She needs to work up on the mustang. This is just part of teaching responsibility. Besides, you dont want to get her a high performance vehicle the first car she has....Dangerous. Try somethin with a I-4 or V6 engine as a starter car.

According to Consumer Reports Magazine, the first car for a teenager is a car that has adequate safety features like antilock braking system, traction control, stability control, front and side airbags, and safety-belt pretensioners.
When I was young, I like to drive fast, it is a fantasy to drive a brand new car that is fast. As a Teenager before, I was a sloppy driver, meaning you don't think safety as a priority. Of course there is a lot of learning to drive. Isn't it takes months, years of practice when you drive? Driving is a skill, but still it is your decision.
I think you should factor the cost of the car, insurance, registration, license fees, maintenace of the car. A car is the second most expensive thing to spend. The most expensive the house itself, where you park the car.

Wow....don't get her a mustang.
The combination alone of being 16, and owning a mustang would make her insurance sky high. Gas $$ would cost a lot too.
I would get her something with fantastic safety ratings. Do you live in a place with a lot of snow? I would recommend an AWD infiniti or a volvo. Infiniti is a lot more beautiful inside, but volvo has great safety.

Well i had a buddy who had a 77 cadillac... Bright yellow about 17 feet long... We called it the big banana. You said BIG.. lol On a serious note a car is as safe as the driver. I am sure your daughter will be a safe and cautious driver no matter what you get her
