The best way is for you and your husband to get something for her together. This way with her son's name also on the package, along side yours, she will automatically like whatever it is much more just because of who gave it to her.

Candles
Slippers
Framed Photo of Your Spouse
Book
Set of Specialty Chocolates
Earings
Basically anything that you would feel comfortable giving to your own mother... Unless she's like my mother in law and then give her a stocking full of coal.

Get a picture of your husband and her when he was young. Have it blown up to 8x10, restored, and reprinted in black and white. Then find a silver frame with mat. It tells her you care about the family and the relationship she has with your husband.

You can get her a bath set or something nice like a treat to the spa or something that you can do with her to build up a relationship with her and I am sure your husband will see your effort in trying to be closer to her. She and he will be happy.
