Be careful how you judge others. To some people, you might be rich...why don't you help them? My husband is constantly complaining about the rich, greedy people. But what he doesn't understand is that in our neighborhood, we ARE the rich people. If you ate today you are richer then a good portion of the world.

The problem is not rich people, it is foreign debt. We need debts cancelled, so countries can start again. I ask are you poor, how much do you donate on a yearly basis. I am not rich yet I donate about $600 a year. I support a child in India, and often donate to many other foundations. Instead of bagging people for not helping why don't you think about others instead of.

Often corruption keeps the money that is sent in aid from helping. It isn't a problem with the amount of aid available.

I could go on, but that is enough to make my point. The majority of the money given in aid is often wasted, diverted to the military, or just out right stolen by the government of the country in need or the officials overseeing the program. Programs like Iraq's "Oil for Food" never have much effect, especially given the amount of money that should be more than enough because it just goes to line the pockets of the guys in charge. There is no way that the west can afford to save everyone from their government and we really shouldn't even if we could.

Yes that sucks, but it really is the way it is.

Considering how much our country has given to others over the years...and considering how often we see commercials telling us to give monthly to starving people in other countries. I think we ARE encouraged to "save" other people. And then you know what? It's all so focused on those other countries that we almost never hear about the poor and needy in our own country who will go ignored.

It is actually every country's responsibility to take care of itself and it's people first and foremost.

People from "rich" countries pay a lot of tax and have very high living expenses. Many of them work more than one job ust to make ends meet. They can't all afford it. Besides, I'd rather help those closer to home before I start sending money to people on the other side of the world.

Rich people don't help the poor in their own countries. They say poor people are lazy or unwilling to be educated. Rich people are uppity, egotistical, pompous, a s s h o l e s. Hope that helps ya some.

How would you define a rich country? Many countries who are deemed 3rd World and whose populations teeter on the brink of starvation have both a wide disparity between the haves and the have-nots, and natural resources...

Some people do, they sacrifice everything to do so, but many just do not care because they have never seen suffering up close and personal.
I feel sorry for them, they will never know the joy they could bring into others lives, and the lives they could save would be immeasurable.

Some people tend to be very individualistic and only care about helping themselves. What ever happened to an egalitarian society? Gone are those days unfortunately. It's each man for himself.

They are, in all kinds of ways, schooling, medicine, food, aid. How much more do they want? But self sufficiency is the goal, not just being a money pit.
