Our wedding is in June and we are having 2 flower girls and 2 ring bearers. We don't want the boys to be carrying the rings. What could we have them carry besides a pillow if they aren't carrying the rings? My fiance thought of a pail filled with cars to play with but I'm not sure about this. Any suggestions would be great! We are having an outdoor ceremony and it's fairly traditional. No themes, our colours are blues and pinks.

Even if the boys aren't carrying the rings, they can still carry the pillow. If you don't want to buy them each a pillow, make them one! It is easy to do and will be more personal (and much cheaper) than just buying them. Good luck!

Usually the ring bearer (s) carry fake rings on the pillows. Only in the formalist of formal weddings does the ring bearer carry the rings. (which I think is still a BIG mistake.)
The boys should not be carrying cars in a pail. This is a wedding.

If you decide they shouldn't carry a pillow, or something else that could house the fake rings, then have them carry nothing.

My d-inlaw had her brother carry an open wooden treasure chest I made with the rings sitting on a pillow in that..

No one lets the little boys carry the rings. You get some plastic rings and sew them to the pillows.

Bucket of cars? are you nuts. Those little boys will never make it down the aisle they will want to play with the cars. it is not about getting the boys something to play with it is about taking part in a traditional ceremony. If the boys are not bearing the rings or at least a good imitation, what are they doing in the procession? they are Ring Beareres that is their place and purpose if they do not at least have fake rings to bear what is the point? Is the flowergirl going to toss Barbie dolls?

Our ringbearer is carrying a ring pillow but NOT our rings. I attached a cute fake ring set I found at a craft store and I just tied them to the ribbon on the pillow.

If you are just not wanting a pillow then you could have them carry buckets with the birdseed/bubbles (or whatever).

Or fill some buckets or baskets for the girls and boys with some crayons and small color books, snacks (already opened so there isn't noise), juice box... too keep them busy during the ceremony. (Quiet stuff!)

My son and stepson-to-be are both 10 and are our ring bearers. Since they're both a bit older we wanted to do something different since the pillows seem a bit juvenile so we decided to have them carry the actual ring boxes down the aisle. It's easy since the box stays closed so the rings won't be falling out and we didn't have to spend money on pillows. Hope this helps!

as you are having an outdoor ceremony - then you could have the boys carry baskets with flower petals in them & the girls scatter the petals along the path that you will be walking down.
you would first need to check with the owner of the property if they will allow this
instead of cars for them to play with - at the bottom of the baskets some bubble blowing sets & the little ones could then be kept amused by blowing bubbles over you both while the ceremony is being performed

I'm getting married on Feb.10.2007 and I have a wonderful idea that I'm going to use. I'm not going to have my ring bearer carry a pillow either. I'm dressing my 5 year old nepher up as cupid. Not the big diaper or anything. He will wear a all white tux or suit and have on big cupid wings. He will carry a bow and arrow and on the arrow our rings will be in there. I thought it was a cute but diffrent idea. If you use this idea then I'm glad that I can help you. Congrats on the upcoming wedding.

I like the escorting idea - here is antoher one.

My daughter was in a wedding last spring as the flower girl. The "ring bearer" drove her down the aisle in a electric toy car (like these http://www.fun4kids2play.com/index.asp?function=DISPLAYCAT&catid=12)

If it fits into your budget - it is REALLY cute - you could also just have the two boys drive down together. Just make sure you have someone at the front to help them off and pull the cars off to the side:)

I say just let them carry pillows, with fake rings if you want. Personally I got a pillow with a ribbon so I could actually tie the rings to it in a bow.

If they arent carrying the rings then they arent ring bearers. But if you still want them to come down the aisel, then have both of them walk with one flower girl like a mini couple. That would be cute. Congratulations. But again if they arent holding the rings then you dont have any ring bearers. Have fun planning your wedding. CONGRATULATIONS!!
