Lots of people say it is, but I'm not sure that's true all the time.

Actually Southwest has raised a lot of their fares and are not always the cheapest. Check with some airlines. You might do better and get seats assigned! (I hate that cattle car way of loading the plane)

I think the airlines are pretty comparable most of the time. Sometimes Southwest is the cheapest and sometimes they're not. If there were 8 airlines, Southwest would be the cheapest about 1/8 of the time. I just bought a ticket from ABQ to OKC on United and it was more than 50 dollars cheaper than
Southwest's cheapest fare. So I would say to do some research before you just go straight to southwest.com and buy a ticket.

I would avoid Southwest. From having to make 10 different stops, to having NO sunshades, or magazines, and with limited food service; there is a reason they call it "The ghetto bus of the sky." Look around, there are cheaper deals than Southwest.

MOST of the time, I found that Southwest's prices are the SAME. In that case, why wouldn't I fly another airline that gives me assigned seating?

100% of the time ... no, of course not. There are too many variables. But, in the big picture, they have brought the fares down nationwide.

Would love to know what kind of pilot united_nations_pilot is ... every time I've been on Southwest, they have magazines (called Spirit), and shades on the window. He may have them confused with Ryan Air in Ireland.

it is not cheapest 100% of the time but its is up to you to find the cheapest price. To get the best prices on southwest try to book 4 months ahead of time...

I agree, not ALL the time. I think they keep the prices low because they offer the bare minimum. No choosing seats (huge bummer) and they don't fly EVERYWHERE. I find that Jet Blue offers very reasonable fares and there's TV too!
