Pull the surrounding hairs away from the ticks body. Take the tweezers and grasp the tick as close to the buried head as you can possibly get. Do NOT squeeze, but pull gently up and away from the dog, slowly to be sure not to break off the head of the tick. Toss tick in toilet and flush. Wash your hands and your dog's skin with anti-bacterial soap.

If you suspect you may have left a piece of tick still embedded under your pet's skin, please seek veterinary care immediately. The resulting infections could be horrible, and ticks carry a plethora of nasty diseases.

To remove a tick, use a pair of tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the dog's skin as possible. It's imortant to make sure you get the tick's head out. You can clean the area with a cotton ball & alcohol. Make sure you destroy the tick. We usually burn it or flush it town the toilette.

Frontline is, by far, the best product for tick control on pets. It covers more species of ticks than the other vet recommended products. It's also the safest for your pet. It's not metabolized by the liver or kidneys, like other products. It's absorbed and spread by the oil on your pet's skin. It lasts around 30 days, give or take, and is water proof.

The Spot Treatments such as ADVANTIX goes on the dogs neck just above it's shoulders. These few drops migrate all over the dogs skin and are 100% effective for 30 FULL DAYS. They are worth every penny of the additional cost. I cannot recommend them strongly enough because they WORK and they are safer for the dog than any HARTZ treatments. And the beauty of these treatments is that you can even bath your dog after 48 hours and they remain effective.

Get frontline and put it on your doggy once a month. That should kill the ticks and prevent new ones.
Frontline Plus is great, it is not cheap, but it works and will keep your dog healthy. You should also give your dog heartguard once a month.

i have tried many different types of flea and tick treatments. the one i found to be best is K9 advantics. not only does it kill and repel fleas and ticks but it also repels mosquito's, which gives dogs heart worms. it isn't any more expensive than any other brand, it only works better.
