My sis's dog would not eat the heartworm medicine. I have tried to wrap it with ham and chicken BUT the dog will "unwrapped" the ham and chicken, and leave the heartworm medicine on the floor. Anyone has any other tricks? (besides shoving it down the dog's throat?) GOSH! Please help!!

If you have a hard time pilling your dog, try this. We used to use two tiny pieces of liver sausage on very picky dachshund. Wrap the pill in the first piece. Offer him the first piece with the pill in it, while holding the other piece close to the first where he can see it. Give him the second piece immediately after he's swallowed the first. He was in such a hurry to get to the second one, he'd gobble down the piece with the pill in it.

You could try braunschweiger or liverwurst; I used to have a similarly picky dog (if anybody said the word "pill," she wouldn't eat anything!) and this worked.
However, putting it down the dog's throat isn't so bad if you do it correctly. Put one hand over the muzzle, and push the lip skin inward with your thumb and finger, so the dog can't close its mouth without biting himself. Then just push the pill down into the throat, let the dog's mouth close, and hold it shut until he swallows. Follow up with a delicious treat. Do the whole thing in a friendly and cheerful way.

Peanut butter, marshmallows, wrap it in a peice of white bread and mash it around the pill, or put in a tablespoon of yogurt.
Then you could always change heartworm pills or go to Revolution a topical which does heartworms and fleas.

put it in some peanut butter and put that on a dog treat. my sis does that all the time w/ her dog and he eats with out a problem!

my dog has allergies and i was giving him two different medications for that, so i just wrapped the pills in cheese and he ate them
