Cars are cars, people that say, don't buy Fords, or Dodges because they or a family member had a problem with one is idiotic! The Taurus is a decent deal, not great but not bad. Shop around, Chances are it is a V6 and will take more gas than a 4 cylinder, Look around and as a result of lack of anything else, get the Taurus. Remember your the buyer though, so make demands like they warranty it for 3 months, or they get it inspected before you buy, if they don't go with it, someone else will. try ebay, 3500$ buys a lot of car!

IF it's in good condition. Drive it. The transmissions in this car weren't the greatest. Look for bad shifting/delayed shifting. Ask for some maintenance records maybe. If all checks out, then it's good. But unless it's in pristine condition, I'd either offer $1000, or look elsewhere, as for $1500 you could get a Taurus of the same year in good shape with only around 150,000 miles.

Your question should be for Taurus owners and mechanics. Too many people trash cars because of stories. I agree. Get a mechanic to check it out first. It may save you a big headache. We had a 94 Taurus, but didn't have that many miles on it. Loved it. No problems. But I maintained it well. That's what you need to find out.
For fun, go to www.autotrader.com and search for Taurus' and see what comes up for sale and see how many have well over 100,000 miles on them.

If you are going to buy a ford, I would recommend that you buy a Crown Victoria. They drive smooth, are reliable, They have MUCH more space, and are used as police cars. You might even be able to get one at a police auction.
I personally am not a fan of fords. As an ex dmv employee, I DID see more ford tauruses being registered than any other vehicle.

Generally, not a bad car. There are some things you want to check out, primarily, rear engine seal (a real pain in the butt to change, costs up to 1500 bucks to change), transmission seals (another pricey fix), front struts, CV joints, and steering components. If the car looks good and drives okay, invest the 100 bucks to have a good mechanic check it out. Good luck.

Good deal. One of the most driven cars in America. If it was well maintained you shouldn't have any problems with it. If you divide the miles by the age you get less then the 15,000 miles per year average. I would go for it.

if you want reliability, thats a bad deal at 2500. at 90k miles that car is at its end of service...sad to say. a 150k mile civic or corolla that was properly maintained should outlast that taurus easily. plus, if that taurus is a v6, it should be gargling gas by now. i was in college before and i know every penny counts. get any of the civic or corolla , get 30-35 miles per gallon. save your money.

Didn't Ford stop making the Taurus?
That is a good indicator.

If it's been well taken care of you probably won't go very far wrong. They're cheap to fix as well because there are so many of them on the road.
