720p still looks better to me than 1080i. Progressive will always look better.
As for brands, everyone raves about the Panasonic series. But, they cost significantly more than other brands...approximately $500 more for the same features. I personally like the Zenith/LG series. Affordable, great colors and awesome image. When you compare the Zenith to the Panasonic, the Panasonic as slightly deeper blacks, but the images are equally sharp. You can buy a 50" Zenith 720p plasma for $1800. Only pitfall with this plasma is that it only has one HDMI port. Otherwise, no complaints.

ok the best high definition tv would be from samsung i personally like them better and 720 is not the best 1080i is because it has a more clear crisp picture
