Lady Liberty was finished in 1886, I think she had her 'papers', but she's also from another time...in 1886, there was maybe 1/4 the people there are today in america, and less than 1/6th the current global population...a lot of people have a hard time grasping just HOW fast global population growth has increased...
read all about it online. Different times, different practices...we live in a changed world...

Because it's in the same body of water as Ellis Island? The Statue of Liberty was given to us by the French for many reasons, none of which have to do with immigration. Don't try to be witty when you lack wit.

If you like, sure. Seems to me a better place for it would be a museum, however, along with the Tesla coil and other things people thought were a good idea for a while, but went out of vogue.
It doesn't have the same meaning, somehow, since they had to bar Americans from going up inside, due to fear of terrorism.

they kind of did that in the 1920s all the way into the 60s or 70s but didnt get rid of the statue of liberty

The Statue of Liberty was to celebrate the anniversity of the founding of the USA. Nothing changes that.
Not even millions of lawbreakers invading us.
Btw no one is advocating the shutting of of immigration to the USA.

ABSOLUTLY YES SHUT DOWN THE BORDER.
Maybe they should have a lottery and issue tickets to aplicants all over the world so it would be fair no way racist but the latinos would be just like everyone else

our borders were closed before the 1960's...a brilliant president decide to close the border to let the immigrants blend into American society and become united...we need that again...we should give back the statue of liberty because its french...
