Proactiv and other cleansers may or may not work, but they are not permanent solutions.
Cleanse your insides with diet and your outer skin problems will disappear.
Eat more veggies and foods high in fiber. Drink prune juice and water to flush your system out.
Decrease your intake of animal meat proteins. Eliminate fast foods from your diet all together. Substitute with fish, milk, nuts, and beans.

Benzoyl Peroxide creams (around 2.5 - 5%) are generally recognised as being the most effective for spots. They kill the bacteria that causes the spots. You have to persevere with any treatment but when I tried it before I saw results within a month. It should be the first thing you try because it works for most people. One thing, BP can dry your skin out a bit, you should take it easy at first and use a moisturiser if you need it.
Like others have said, wash your face twice a day and no more or you will stimulate more oil, wash it as soon as you get in rather than late at night to get all the day's dirt off a.s.a.p. Use a cleanser for sensitive skin as irritating your skin can make it worse.
R.e. accutane, I would be surprised if the doctor would prescribe that if you had not already tryed BP for a good while because accutane is not really too good for you and can cause other problems.

At least you have time before the dance.
It is really important to keep a healthy diet, meaning enough water, veggies, fruits and proteins. Too many teenagers don't eat well.
Ask your mom/ dad/ guardian to take you to a local esthetician or dermatologist. They can assess your skin better and figure out a good plan for you. The problem will likely get worse before getting better because your body is getting rid of the junk thats in there.
Tell mom/ dad / guardian, that you want to fix the problem before you get scarring.
Jan Marini sells a really good "Teen Clean" product that is very effective in controlling acne and it's not very expensive.
I hear proavtive works really well too on some people.
Clean your face well with a good product, I recommend a Glycolic cleanser, you can get from Kaiser hospital pharmacy even if you aren't a member.
Use an oil free moisturizer and sunscreen. Remember, acne is from oil, not moisture. Your skin can break out from being too dry too.
Good luck, hope this wasn't too long!

I have oily skin, and I used to have acne. I started using Clean & Clear Persa-Gel 10 to get rid of the acne and prevent future acne from popping up, which works really well.
For a face wash, I use Oil Free Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser to get all the dirt and stuff out of my pores. Although, recently, my sister bought Clean & Clear Oil Free Foaming Facial Cleanser and I think that actually works better, and makes my face feel cleaner than the Neutrogena stuff.
Throughout the day, when my face gets oily, I use Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets, and they work really well. You dab them on your face and they remove all the oil off your face without messing up your make-up.
Hope that helps!

Try Acne Free. Its pretty much the same as proactive. But Acne Free is available at WalMart and some drugstores. Its about 20 bucks for a kit. I used it for a month before a really big event and my face was flawless.
If your event is next month, start using the Acne Free asap, and make sure you use it as the directions say (twice a day!!!) If you dont use it twice a day, it wont work.

Neutogena oil free soap is excellent for controlling oil. If you can, find a small, soft bristle brush,( some cosmetic stores have them), and use this and the oil free soap to wash your face. It should be VERY soft to prevent irritation. Don't use oily makeup, either. Most cosmetics come in oil free formulas too. And don't sleep with makeup on. Keeping your face clean is very important in treating breakouts.
I'm not sure if it's still in use, but when I was younger, I used a prescription drug called Retin-A ointment and it helped tremendously. Of course, it was prescribed by a dermatologist.

You can start be eating less foods with fats oils and sugars which cause your face to become oily. You also can try face washes like clearsil ultra. Wash your face 2 times a day in the morning and before you go to bed and watch what you eat.
Best of luck

When I was younger and had really bad acne, my dermat. perscribed acutane!!! I heard it is the strongest meds around for acne. May not be now. If you don't want to go that far then try an over the counter acne wash. I like noxema. Wash your face morning and night. You can use a wash cloth and scrub, but not too hard!!!
GOOD LUCK!!
and ignore the rude comments people make!!!

Your diet will have the greatest effect on your face. Clean out your system and drastically change your diet to a healthier one. Keep away from soda, chips, greasy and oily foods, fried and salted stuff. Get a book from GNC and start learning about your body.
