I've developed this tenancy over the past 4 months or so, where I eat foods that I normally enjoy, but once I swallow (sometimes even before I do) I get that familiar stomach cramp. The one that tells you you're gonna hurl? I've never actually thrown the food back up (yet) but the urge is still there, and I have to repress it. Eating is becoming less and less enjoyable for me.
The only connection I've found between all the foods that I have this problem with is that they all tend to be soft in texture, or mixed with liquid or something. Breakfast cereal, yogurt, soup, pancakes, soft deserts, sometimes meat. I used to love eating these foods, they taste great.
I'm a healthy 18 year old male, 135 pounds. I don't have any major physical or psychological problems (unless you guys think different) I'm doing less than average emotionally in my life right now, and I generally eat pretty healthy.
This isn't the start of bulimia is it?

Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by a fear of being fat, binge eating (eating large amounts of food in one sitting and a percieved loss of control) and usually purging through vomiting, laxatives/diuretics, exercise, or fasting.
I would not say that you have bulimic tendencies just because you feel nauseated when eating soft foods. Bulimics usually do not purge because they feel physically ill, but rather because of guilt, disgust, fear, or anxiety. You may be having a psychosomatic reaction to the foods because of your mood or issues in your life. It could also be just a phsycial thing. Getting checked out by a doctor would be good too look for any underlying physical problems. If that does not work, a therapist might be able to get to the root of the problem.

Before you start worrying about psychological factors, I'd go to the doctor and rule out any physical problems. Although you are young, there is a possibility that you've got something going on in the gut that needs to be investigated. Better safe than sorry, after all. If the doctor finds no physical reason for the problem, he/she may still be able to give you some insight as to why these foods are bothering you. Good luck!

it sounds like the start of bulimia to me especially if it's foods you used to enjoy...it could also be a psychological thing with the foods you're eating...it's pretty much mind over matter...if you tell yourself you're going to be sick...you usually end up being sick..i don't know what more to tell you..see your doctor about it and see what they think...

I would go see you doctor before its to late. You don't want it to turn into a big problem. Maybe something else you have eaten has made you stomach sensitive? You need to go talk to a doctor right now! GO! CALL!!

No its not bulimia - you seem to be having a gag reflex set off by the foods you are eating.
Please see a doctor or talk with a medical professional - your reaction seems abnormal at best, at least based on your description.

Go get seen by a doctor. You could have gastritis, gastric reflux, the start of an ulcer, just to name a few. Only he can find the real reason for it all so go see him/her.
