I know there are many gays & lesbians who consider themselves Christian. But, isn't it a contradiction to be Gay and Christian, since the Holy Bible specifically condemns homosexuality as a sin (in the Book of Leviticus, among other places)?

Before anybody gets upset - I'm NOT saying I agree with the Bible - but hey, if you claim to be Christian, how can you ignore one of the major teachings of that religion?

In other words, can you really be Christian and Gay?

Good question and also very true. A lot of people will take some passage or part of the bible and try to use it to justify their sin. Be they straight or gay. I am going to love to see what kind of answers you get from this question.

...Well--here is a bit of info. I am doing research on same sex marriage for my government class right now. I came across this...so...read it.

Religious arguments

Conservative and some moderate Christians further state that same-sex marriage goes against biblical teaching, for example, Genesis 19:5 [9] (behavior which allegedly contributed to the destruction of ancient cities Sodom and Gomorrah). This story was the source of the word sodomy. Other passages are Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13 (which, by literal interpretation, prescribes the death penalty for male-male homosexual contact), and in the New Testament of the Bible, First Corinthians 6:8-10 and Romans 1:24-27 [10].

However, other moderate and liberal Christians have the view that these passages are taken out of full textual, historical and cultural contexts and aren't applicable to homosexual relationships as we know them today. They view the passages about Sodom and Gomorrah as referring to systematic rape and inhospitability. They see the passages in Leviticus as part of the Holiness Code and strictly reserved to the Jewish people of that time. Most of this Holiness Code is not practiced by contemporary Christians (e.g., prohibitions on wearing mixed fabrics, a proscription of the consumption of pork, the sacrifice of animals as atonement for sins). For liberal Christians, the passage in Romans is seen as relating more to specific instances of Greco-Roman temple sex acts and idolatrous worship and not intended to address modern homosexuality.[11]

As one who is neither Christian nor gay, I must ask all to read the ENTIRE book of Leviticus before answering this question. By the logic of it, anyone who: has touched rabbit fur (unclean carcass) - 5:2, eaten a rare steak or chewed the fat from one - 7:22-27, eaten bacon - 11:7, touched a woman after she gave birth - 12:2, etc. etc. CAN'T really be a Christian.

Why do Christians use the e book of Leviticus adverse to gay human beings? i idea they suggested that something interior the former testomony replaced into now to not be taken heavily? Homosexuality is like any sin.... can you be a liar and still be a Christian? Can you be an adulterer and still be Christian?

I think that the answer is "yes", however like with all sin God wants us to become more like Christ and repent from that sin. A homosexual who openly commits sin is not likely a true Christian. Just as a liar who consistently lies is not. The proof of salvation is repentance.

Get used to it- there are millions of people who "think" they are Christians, gay and straight. In Romans 1:24, It says that people who reject God are given over to their sexual desires, and so on-they become homosexual.
It is impossible to be gay and saved. Technically a person can follow part of the christian religion and call themselves christian. But many people call themselves christian. They can call themselves popes if they wish, but are they born again-this is the litmus test.

no, you're right. gay-christian is a contradiction. to the same extent as murderer-christian, or adulterer-christian. You can't have it both ways. Even though no sin is too great that God can't forgive it, honestly understand that it is a sin. Punishable by death in Leviticus, but later (in Romans chapter 1) it is just said that they'll "get what they deserve," (paraphrased, of course...). So to practice homosexuality and christianity is to divide yourself in two and have each side lie to the other.

I think it is kinda silly to be christian AND gay ..

a bit masochistic too..

However . you CAN have some form of faith ..
I do believe that there is some kind of higher leve of existence
and I think what that Jesus guy said is a neat little lesson
Basically love everyone..

But .. the bible .. I can't live by that thing..

It's been so overedited and rewritten over the last 2006 years that it'S IMPOSSIBLE for me to take what'S written in it as some kind of "word of GOD" ..

It's been edited to fit men's needs and the people in power (mainly church) have been using it to control their disciples ..

I also don't need a religion who condemns any form of hate but then turns around and either kills people in the name of their faith or bans them for their lives because they are supposedly impure..

I mean PUH-LEASE!

To play devils advocate for a second:

Can you be a Christian and still tell a small white lie?,

in Gods eyes its a sin which is punishable y death.

We are all sinners, that is why we need his loving grace and mercy.

Now....

I strongly believe that if we truly love God, we will STOP doing what He deems as sin, and we will start doing more God loving acts.

Its hard to share the Gospel and actively live a sinful life.

Do you want to be saved? or do you want to be SAVED?

The bible lists homosexuality as abominable in Gods eyes. He also makes liers to be in that same category. We are saved after accepting Him as Lord and Savior, but we need to live the life as well. If we choose to not live our lives for the Lord, then I question the fact that you were saved to begin with.

Being saved is recognizing your absolute need for Jesus Christ, it signifies your love for Him, which should only grow more and more as you allow (you) to decrease and allow (HIM) to increase

Hope this helps!

well it is a condrdition- but so is the fact that scientifically people are born gay with brains different from str8 people and god made us all.
why would god make people gay unless he accepted it?
or why odes he amke them gay if he doesn't accept it?

I also don't trust the bible. there were many books not entered in the bible for stupid reasons like they were written by females (okay so this may only be one book-but still!) or they said it;s more important to know god in your heart than go to church. (church officails did not like that)
I also historically know the men who 'found' better translations of the bible were dishonest and bad men- I distrust them telling me what god thinks. I also don't know if I trust the original writers. maybe the books not in the bible were inspired by god and the books in the bible are the fake ones
