It's Tiptronic.

Tiptronic is Porsche's manu-matic (which they sell to other companies such as Audi). It's an automatic transmission that allows manual selection of the gear ratio (manual "shifting"). BMW (Steptronic), M-B, and others have their own systems, all virtually the same.

There are also clutchless manuals, such as Ferrari's F1 system, BMW's SMG, and Audi's DSG, that are traditional manual transmissions mated to an electro-hydraulically actuated clutch.

I have a triptonic BMW, but I'm pretty sure they are all the same at the end of the day:

You can put into a 'manual' mode where you can switch gears by taping the shifter back and forth. Of course it's not as sporty as a real manual, but you get the idea.

tiptronic makes it possible for you to have an automatic but to be abe to override the transmission so that you get to change gears by simply pushing your shifter up or down a click. Its not the same as real manual. theres no clutch or anyhing like that.
