That is the English translation,

I don't have my concordance with me, but you should look up the Hebrew and Greek meanings.

To my understanding the word fear is relative to the nature of God and what is capable of.

Its not a type of fear that you would have with evil or danger.
Its more of a Lord I love you and I am afraid to hurt you as you are the ONE who made me and I do not want to hurt you.

We must love God with all our hearts, mind and soul.

I hope this helps:))

Good question. We "fear" G-d because He is a consuming fire. You are a sinner. He will burn you to a crisp. He detests sin.

However, (this will make you 10x happier for Jesus) Jesus has made you righteous enough to stand before G-d and be judged and live. You are covered by the perfect sacrifice. But take away Jesus for a second......wow, thats scarry. Fear G-d? Super happy for Jesus? Hope so.

So since you are so hopefully see the fear, then the love is easy. John 3:16 is why Jesus came. G-d created all...you love your family, right? Loving is easy. Fearing Him takes a bit of understanding.

Hope it makes sense, if not, email me!
Blessings
David

Love him with your whole heart and fear him in the since that you respect him to the highest and don't want to do anything to make him angry. Just like when you were a child, you feared being scolded by your parents, but yet you loved them at the same time. It works no different.

He terrifies me! At the same time He fills me with confidence, and I love Him, and I know He loves me.
Fear is even stronger than respect. On the other hand it is not a question of being afraid he'll bop us any minute. It's recognizing His awesome grandeur, trembling before His power, and at the same time basking in the confidence that this power belongs to our Father who loves us and cares for us.
I see no contradiction. I wouldn't want it to be any different.
EDIT:
It's like - being terrified and smiling at the same time!

It is yet another contradiction.

You can not love something that you fear. It is impossible.

Only a fool (i.e. christian) would claim it is possible.

Imagine fearing your parents would walk into your room and stab you while you sleep. Could you also love them unconditionaly if you believed they were capable of such evil?

Ask any child. You fear what your parents will do but you love them, right?

God is like your father

It is not the same kind of fear that you are thinking...it's hard to explain...your not suppose to be afraid of Him...its like you love Him enough to fear Him...something like what He can do to you...I said it was hard to explain
